Ancient capital of six Dynasties: Abundant historical and cultural resources
Jingzhou, a “place of great military importance with the potential to be the strongest”, has been built as the capital of six dynasties with 34 emperors once lived here from 689 B.C. to 963 A.D.
It has left an abundant historical and cultural heritage for its generations with a 5000-year history of civilization and 500-year history as the capital. Now, Jingzhou has a famous national historical and cultural city, 3 famous towns,4,077 fixed cultural relic spots which include 14 state-protected key units and 60 province-protected key units, 20 museums and memorial halls, and 48 state-owned cultural and non-cultural museums with 140,000 sets of cultural relics, ranking the No.1 with the largest number in the province and one of the leading cities in the whole country.
Jingzhou is the cradle of Chu Culture. The ancestors of Chu State “wore rags and took broken carriages to build roads in mountains and forests”, creating Chu Culture as great as the Culture of Athens in ancient Greece, which can be proved by the Philosophy of Lao Zi and ZhuangZi, the Songs of Chu, arts and dances as well as ancient relics.
Jingzhou is the focus for researching and learning the “culture of the Three Kingdoms”. “For understanding the stories of the Three Kingdoms, you should go to Jingzhou”. There are 120 chapters in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms in which 72 chapters are about Jingzhou.

With the largest amount of cultural tourism resources in Hubei province, Jingzhou will make efforts to become the leader in cultural tourism development.
The tipping point of economic development and transformation, the key for supply side reform.Jingzhou decided to develop the cultural tourism industry as a strategic pillar industry and successively issued the Implementation Suggestions on Promoting Tourism Development and Reform and Guidance on Promoting Holistic Tourism Destinations Development. The Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government has held several symposiums to discuss and study major tourism projects. The Incentive Method for Jingzhou Tourism is now under researching and will bring the strategic concept of holistic tourism destinations to the public.

Intact ancient wall: Tourism core area pursuing the national 5A scenic spot
As the best preserved ancient wall in China, Jingzhou Ancient Wall has already become a world name card. With the goal of building national 5A scenic spot, the government has invested RMB 2 billion to integrate and upgrade scenic spots in and out of the wall, forming a large-scale cultural tourism area with the ancient wall as the core.
The largest Gaunyu Statue in the globe stands before the wall; three major dramas themed on Guanyu are played at the wall.
At present, the application of national 5A scenic spot for Jingzhou Ancient Wall has been submitted to the China National Tourism Administration for evaluation and it is listed on the 5A evaluation form. According to the construction plan, transport stations around the ancient wall scenic spot, construction of security system and the smart tourism system has been completed. Personalized service and hi-tech application will bring forth enjoyment and surprises for tourists when visiting the wall.
New area of cultural tourism: The largest amount of investment in Hubei
Jinan City, the capital of Chu State, located at the north, 5 km from Jingzhou, was magnificent with 20 emperors of Chu once living here and an area of 16 square kilometers 2000 years ago. In 2014, Jinan Cultural Tourism New Area was included in the provincial strategy by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government who proposed the guideline of“world heritage, brand of China, representative of Hubei and implementation by Jingzhou” and issued a series of supporting policies for program, capital and land use.
Since last year, Jinan Cultural Tourism New Area has been under construction and the infrastructure will be built in accordance with the concept of holistic tourism destination development so as to create a cultural tourism industrial park. With the development idea of “Chu Culture as the soul and characteristic industries as the key”, the industrial park has actively promoted and attracted investment and constantly set off enthusiasm for the settling of programs here.
Fantwild Holdings Inc. plans to invest RMB 23 billion in the cultural tourism new area, creating the largest cultural tourism project in terms of the investment amount in Hubei province. The construction of JingzhouHuaqiang Cultural Park Phase I –“JingzhouHuaxia Historical and Cultural Science Park” has been competed with an investment of over RMB 1 billion by the corporation, which will open to the public in September nest year. The Park, with an area of 1,009 mu (1mu≈667square meters), transformed Three Kingdoms culture, the spirit of Quyuan and Chu music into interactive entertainment projects through high technologies of 4D and sphere screen. “Once opening, it will bring 3 million tourists every year”, the investor confidently said.
Chu State 800-Year Theme Park, with RMB 700 million of investment bears the task of presenting the 800-year history and culture of Chu State by the contemporary. It will reproduce the prosperity of Chu State through constructing five scenic spots including “Romantic Oriental”“Great Coup”“Flourishing Heyday”“Philosophy of Lao Zi and ZhuangZi” and “Treasure of Chu” with three chapters of “Chu People”“Chu State” and “Soul of Chu”.
Xi’an Qujiang Group participates in the investment of RMB 12 billion for Jingzhou Chu Culture Park, the Expo park as the main venue of the 2nd Garden Expo, Chu Palace with RMB 2 billion in phase I, Yingcheng Cultural Town, Wildlife Park etc. Since the begging of this year, over 10 cultural tourism projects have been introduced into the cultural tourism new area, with an overall investment exceeding RMB 35 billion.
Becoming the “tourist destination of China”
Jingzhou, with advantages in transportation, location and historical resources, has lost the lasting attraction for tourists due to the lack of experience and interactions. Travelers would leave the city at once after visiting the scenic spots. Such “transit tour” cannot manifest the tourism strength of it.
Now, the three major dramas of Ritual for Entering the City, Liubei Married and the World of Guanyuare performed by professional actors under the ancient wall; in the Cultural Tourism Industrial Park, the essence of Chu Culture based on modern technology as the carrier is visible, touchable and accessible for tourists; the ecological Honghu Lake, SongziWeishuiLake scenic spot, Mont. Taohua and natural village scenery which combine the beautiful mountains and rivers with leisure, entertainment and special foods all attract tourists to stay a long time here.
Jingzhou, now, is transforming into the “tourist destination of China” from a destination of “transit tour”. According to the analysis of some tourism experts, tourists from other provinces prefer Wuhan and western Hubei, while overseas tourists prefer the Yangtze Three Gorges. Jinan Cultural Tourism New Area, with its development potential, will promote Jingzhou to a tourist destination which emphasizes the cultural soul of Hubei. “The profound exploration of Chu Culture will enrich the cultural tourism projects in Hubei province and advance cultural tourism to a new highlight and growth pole in a new round of tourism development of the whole province”.
Beautiful sky of Hubei, relaxing tour in Jingzhou. According to statistics, it is predicted that Jingzhou will receive 42.5 million tourists this year, and achieve tourism revenue of RMB 26 billion, a year-on-year growth of 30%.
