When members of Jingzhou Bird Watching Society were observing birds in Chiba Town of Jianli County on December 3rd, they found a large number of rare and precious birds, including hundreds of herons and herds of bean gooses. More surprisingly, sixwhite cranes, national first-class protected animal, and 3 little swans were been found as well.
It is a mud flat in the old Yangtze River that these birds were founded. According to the introduction of Wenjun, a member of the Society, six big birds with long legs and white feathers walked into their shot when they were observing a group of resting herons via large-field-view camera devices. They were about 1.4m in height, equivalent to that of a teenager.
This finding excited the members who participated in this filming. These six birds were initially identified as white crane, a national first-class protected animal, by their experience. When taking photosaround them, members found another three little swans nearby, a suspected case of a family.
After backing to Jingzhou, members clearly affirmed that they were white cranes undoubtedly through photo comparisons.
It is known that as early as a few years ago, nearby villagers had seen the trace of white crane. White crane, a large white wading bird and slightly smaller thanred-crowned crane, is one of the endangered animals.
White crane is one of the cranes, which has the highest special requirement for the habitat, with a strong attachment to shallow wetlands. By now in China, it has been mainly the winter birds and passing birds. It will migrateto south in autumn mainly during early to middle November, while leaving China in spring mainly during end March to early April.
