Guan Yu (162? -220)，an Outstanding Militarist and Strategist

Born in Xieliang, Hedong of Donghan (presentYuncheng, Shanxi province), Guan Yu was a famous general of Shuhan Kingdom ofthe time of Three Kingdoms, and also an excellent militarist and strategist. In 208,he followed Liu Bei into Jingzhou, and participated in the War of Chibi. He governed Jingzhou after the war,for a total of about 10 years, and he was granted Great General of Shuhan,governor of Jingzhou, a representative of the king in emergency, and ShoutingMarquis consecutively. He was captured and behead at the age of 58 afterJingzhou fell under the sneak attack launched by the army of Wu Kingdom, and hewas granted the posthumous title ofZhuang MiuMarquis. After his death, he was praised and honored by the royal families andmasses of the following dynasties as a saint, king, god of excellent martialskills, and god of Buddhism.
