Fresh Waters

In Jingzhou, rivers interlace with each other and lakes are denselydistributed. There are about 100rivers of different sizes, all of which belong to the Yangtze River system. The main rivers include Yangtze River main streams, and its tributaries like Songzi River, Hudu River, Ouchi River, and Tiaoxian River. Jingzhou is rich with lakes, 30 of which exceed an area of 1,000 mu.The total lake area is 80,000 hectares, with Honghu Lake being the biggest of Hubei province, totaling35,000 hectares, followed by Changhu Lake, 12,000 hectares.  

Biological resources   

There are rich biological resources with features of various types, wide distribution, and integrating the species of both north and south China. There are over 1,000 cultivated species of plants, withlocal improved varieties, plankton, vascular plants, and fish being the region's advantageous resources. The China Four Fish Genetic ResourceBase is located at the Laojiang River, Jianli County.

 The grain production of Jingzhou takes about 1% of the nation's total, cotton 1/3of the province total, oil products 1/5 of the provincial total, fresh waterfish production ranking top in 17 consecutive years among the whole nation,winning the reputation of the nation's No. 1 city of fresh water fishery”.

Mine resources

Jingzhou is rich in mine, with 35 exploitable types, and among them there are13 types verified with considerable industrial reserve. 20 types have beenexploited, and there are over 10 billion tons of brine rich in potassium, which is a significant resource for high and new technology industries and strategic new industries like new energy, and fine chemical. The main energy mines arepetroleum and coal; chemical mines are rock salt, mirabilite, pyrite, and barite; construction mines are marble, granite, limestone, clay, channel sand,and pebbles; metallurgy assisting material mines are dolomite, high qualitysilica, and refractory clay; and a new mine called bentonite. Additionally, there are mines of sand gold, lode gold,etc. Jingzhou has a consistent geologic structure, with good deposit and stable surrounding rock condition. Except petroleum and coal, majority of non-metal mines are exposed to the surface and easy to exploit. The majority of mines are found in hilly areas or distributed around towns. The well-developed transportation network provides an advantageous condition for the exploitation.

 Talent resources

 Jingzhou has a strong capacity of scientific research and education, the secondtalents accumulation region in Hubei province. There are more than 300 research institutes or academies, 9 higher education institutions, and 40 secondary vocational schools, with 120,000 college students and 100,000 vocational school students,which provide strong intellectual support to Jingzhou's economic development.
