According to the 6th demographic census in 2010, in Jingzhou municipal region, there are 5,392,010 permanent residents of 1,619,970 families, an average of 3.33 persons in each family, 0.3 person less than the3.63 persons of the fifth nation wide demographic census in 2,000. The permanent residential family size is decreasing, mainly due to the birth rate drop, mobile population increase, young couples' independent living after marriage, etc. The permanent residents sex ratio (taking 100 females, and male to female ratio) has dropped from 105.88 to103.87 of the fifth nationwide demographic census in 2000.
Compared to the fifth nationwide demographic census in 2000, 0-14 years oldpopulation ratio dropped 8.99 percentage points, 15-64 years old populationration increased 5.62 percentage points, and population over 65 years oldincreased 3.37 percentage points.
Besides, in comparison to the fifth nationwide demographic census in 2000, inevery 100,000 residents, the number of people with college degrees or higherincreased from 2,674 to 6,828; high school diploma, 11,208 to 14,546; middleschool diploma, 34,761 to 41,580; and number of people with primary schooldiploma dropped from 38,927 to 26,450. Among the municipal permanent residents,there are 251,103 illiterate people, and compared to the fifth nationwidedemographic census, the illiterate ratio dropped from 7.44% to 4.41%, 3.03percentage points down.
