Population and ethnic groups

Jingzhou is mainly made up of Han people, with ethnic groups scattered in the municipal region. There are 31 ethnic groups totaling 33,400 people, 0.35% of the whole population. 11,200 people of ethnic groups live in the main urban area, 32.01% of the total ethnic population of Jingzhou. There are two ethnic villages, i.e. Honghu Laowan Hui Ethnic Autonomous Village and Songzi Xiejiaping Tujia Ethnic Autonomous Village. There are 36 towns, villages, streets, or factories with over 100 ethnic people. There are two ethnic groups with 10,000 people respectively, i.e. Hui and Tujia People; one ethnic group with more than 1,000 but less than 10,000 people, Man People; and four ethnic groups with more than 100 but less than 1,000 people, i.e. Mongolian, Miao, Dong and Zhuang People. Hui People mainly live in Honghu Laowan Hui Village, Shashi, Jingzhou, Gong'an, etc.; Man and Mongolian People live in Shashi, Jingzhou; Miao People in Shashi and Jingzhou; Dong and Zhuang People in Honghu, Shashi, etc. There are two official ethnic middle schools, i.e. Honghu Laowan Hui Village Ethnic Middle School and Songzi Xiejiaping Tujia Ethnic Middle School. There are five ethnic primary schools, including two in Honghu Laowan Hui Ethnic Village, one in Songzi Xiejiaping Tujia Village, and one Hui Ethnic primary school in Shishou and Jingzhou District respectively. There are 1,400 students studying in these schools, 600 of whom are ethnic students, 45% of the total students.
