Macau-Jingzhou Traditional Chinese Concert: An Elegant Feast of Art

On the evening of October 10, the Macau-Jingzhou Traditional Chinese Concert of the First Traditional Chinese Music Festival was held in Jingzhou Art Theater, providing a cultural feast to the citizens. 
The concert began with the ensemble of traditional instruments, General’s Mandate. Other pieces played at the concert are: The Moon Over A Fountain, an erhu (two-stringed bowed instrument) solo; A New Song of Herdsmen, a Chinese flute solo; Spring in the South of the River, by sanxian (three-stringed plucked instrument) and pipa (four-stringed Chinese lute); Hua Bangzi, a banhu (bowed two-stringed instrument with a thin wooden soundboard) solo; and Jasmine Flower, an ensemble of traditional instruments. A New Song of Herdsmen is divided into five chapters, which depict the picture where herds are roaming on the massive grassland under the blue sky and white clouds. With the beautiful tunes, audience can feel the enthusiasm of the herds and herdsmen on the vast land.
This concert is held by the Hubei Provincial Opera an Dance Drama Theatre and played by Macau Changhong Traditional Music Orchestra, Hubei Chime National Music Orchestra, and Jingzhou Chinese Flute Professional Committee. Deputy Major Xu Chaoping and Wang Shouwei presented at the concert.
Du Cunzhong, head and conductor of the Macau Changhong Traditional Music Orchestra, says at the interview, “music can serve as a window for citizens of mainland China to know more about Macau. Therefore, this concert is not only an art feast, but also an opportunity to present the culture of Macau. No doubt that it plays an important role in the cultural exchanges between Macau and Jingzhou.”
