This July, the automobile safety project of Takata, Jingzhou’s first Japanese-funded enterprise, was signed and the project site will be situated in Jingzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone. The project aims at building Takata’s largest manufacturing base in China. On the morning of December 3, the foundation was laid for the project, implying that a new sector – automotive passive safety equipment manufacturing has been added to Jingzhou’s automotive parts industry in addition to automobile steering device, bearings and heat exchanger.
With a total investment of 450 million yuan and an area of 182 mu, Takata (Jingzhou) Automotive Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd. will supply products like airbags, steering wheels and safety belts to automakers in Central, South and Northwest China. With an annual output of 20 million safety belts, 8 million airbags and 1.3 million steering wheels, and an annual output value of 1 billion yuan, the project is expected to be completed in October 2014 and go into operation in April 2015.
Currently, Takata’s manufacturing bases are concentrated in coastal cities like Shanghai and Tianjin. Of these bases, the Shanghai base is the largest but under heavy pressure in terms of labor and logistics costs. With the rise of the central region, Jingzhou will become the company’s largest manufacturing base in China and will play a decisive role in occupying the central and western markets.
