Honghu Wild Duck Awarded the National Agro-product Geographical Indications Label

Honghu locals say that Qingtou and Bata breeds are the best type of Honghu wild ducks because each part of their bodies can be used. At the press briefing in Honghu on the morning of November 27th, Honghu wild ducks were given the National Agro-product Geographical Indications label. How will this help to build the Honghu Wild Duck brand, and develop the profile of regional agricultural products in Honghu?
At the press conference, Mr. Yu Fajin, Director of the Green Food Office at the Department of Agriculture in Hubei Province, read the announcement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. Tu Shenghua, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture in Hubei Province passed the Registration Certificate of the Agro-product Geographical Indications to Honghu Wild Duck Domesticating Association. There are a total of 396 species of wilds ducks in Honghu which include Qingtou (black-crested wild ducks), Huangya (yellow wild ducks), Zhongye, and Bata. In addition to their wonderful flavor when cooked, Honghu wild ducks also have a great health benefits.
Being recognized as a national agricultural product of geographical indication helps build the Honghu Wild Duck brand. The geographical indication label is more than a logo; it is also a symbol of quality and credibility which represents profound geo-cultural characteristics, and promises a broader market. Moreover, it helps to effectively express the advantages of unique regional agricultural resources, and plays a greater role in developing agricultural production while increasing farmers' income.
Mr. Yuan Yong, Deputy Director of the Green Food Office at the Department of Agriculture in Hubei Province believes protecting agricultural products through geographical indication, and developing geographically indicated industries will have a positive effect on the rational protection and scientific utilization of agro-ecological resources.
