Harbor and Channel Construction in Jingzhou Takes the Lead in Hubei

Our reporter yesterday learned from Transportation Agency of Jingzhou City about the number and progress of harbor and channel construction projects in Jingzhou taking the lead. During 3 years, totally RMB 3.27 billion has invested into harbor and channel construction, which is 5.8 times as much as that in the “11th Five-Year Plan” period and exceeds the total investment in harbor and channel construction since the establishment of new China.
  

The range opened to navigation in Jingzhou has been gradually increasing for 3 years, with level-3 or higher channels increased from 483km at the end of “11th Five-Year Plan” period up to 509km in range. The new kiloton channel between middle reaches of Changjiang River and middle reaches of Han River also comes with the opening to navigation and water traffic achieved by the project of water diversion from Changjiang River into middle reaches of Han River. The bottleneck of hindered navigation and water traffic in middle reaches of Changjiang River in dry season will be alleviated removed by Jingjiang River channel regulation project whose main part has been completed 60%. In addition, the condition of navigation in main channel will be improved after depth of water increased from 3.2m to 3.5m.
  

16 key harbor and channel projects have been planned in Jingzhou in the “12th Five-Year Plan” period. Currently, Zhujiawan Comprehensive Wharf in DouHuDi Harbor District, Thermo Electricity and Coal Wharf of Hubei Sanonda Co., Ltd. and other 3 projects have been completed construction and put into operation; YanKa (Phase III) Multi-purpose Wharf of Jingzhou Harbor, Jiangling YueJin Comprehensive Wharf of MuChenYuan Harbor and other 6 projects are under construction; Jiangling Petrochemical Wharf of Guanyin Temple Harbor District, Zhujiawan Comprehensive Wharf (Phase II) and another project are expected to commence on construction in this year. Comprehensive transportation capacity in harbors will be further enhanced, annual throughput reaching 70.7 million tons from 35 million tons at the end of “11th Five-Year Plan” period and annual throughput of containers increasing to 430 thousand TEU from 250 thousand at the end of “11th Five-Year Plan” period. The pattern of standardized, large-scale and specialized shipping capacity will quickly take shape. The shipping capacity of native ships has increased from 800 thousand tons at the end of “11th Five-Year Plan” period up to 1.27 million tons, ranking the second in Hubei.
