From Oct. 13 to 14, a delegation headed by Xiang Zhaolun, deputy directorof Ministry of Culture of the PRC, examined the development of Jingzhouintangible traditional crafts and the work of Jingzhou Traditional Crafts Work Station. Yang Zhi, secretary of Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee and director of Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress was also present at the examination.
On the afternoon of Oct. 13, the delegation led by Xiang Zhaolun examined the intangible cultural heritage projects and got an understanding about the overall situation of the traditional crafts in Jingzhuo at the Jingchu Intangible Cultural Heritage Skill Inheritance Academy. Afterwards, Xiang Zhaolun and Yang Zhi jointly unveiled the nameplate for Jingzhou Traditional Crafts Work Station.
At a discussion meeting about rejuvenating the traditional crafts held on the evening of Oct. 13, Yang Zhi, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, expressed his warm welcome to the delegation headed by Xiang Zhaolun and introduced the development status of the long history of Jingzhou and its intangible culture. He said that as Jingzhou had a long history and profound cultural deposits, a series of valuable handicrafts had been passed down, which became precious spiritual treasure and cultural roots proud by people in Hubei province. The establishment of Jingzhou Traditional Crafts Work Station would surely inject strong energy into the protection of Jingzhou intangible cultural heritage and the development of its cultural and tourism industry. The Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government would greatly support the development of the Work Station through series policies and measures such as projects injection, and investment and financing recommendation. Traditional crafts would surely flourish at Jingzhou with abundant land and talents and the Work Station would bring forth “Jingzhou Plan” to rejuvenate the traditional crafts of Jingzhou.
Xiang Zhoulun said at the meeting that with various categories of crafts, a strong foundation and profound deposits, the traditional crafts of Jingzhou were an important part in rejuvenating the traditional Chinese crafts. He pointed out that, at present, the development of traditional handicrafts ran into the bottleneck, therefore, the purpose for establishing the Work Station was to improve the inheritance, practice and development of the traditional crafts in Jingzhou, and transform the traditional crafts at that time to crafts for the contemporary life. Concepts should be updated and beneficial conditions brought by the advancement of society should be fully utilized to perfect the design, improve the materials and products quality, manufacture products with precise techniques to serve the contemporary life and promote lacquer to be a national brand with ethnic characteristics. Research and exchanges should be actively conducted to build the work station to a R&D and exchange platform. Outstanding designers and handicraftsmen both at home and abroad should be invited to Jingzhou and the local handicraftsmen should go abroad, so as to research, discuss, and exchange with and learn from each other, promote the cultivation and expansion of excellent inheriting team as well as present and improve the development of traditional crafts in Jingzhou.
Experts and scholars, from China National Light Industry Council, Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, North China University of Technology and the traditional crafts field of Hubei province, also attended the meeting to give suggestions for the development of traditional crafts in Jingzhou. On the morning of Oct. 14, the delegation led by Xiang Zhaolunpaid a visit to Jingzhou Museum.
Li Yaohua, deputy director of the Department of Culture of Hubei Province, and municipal leaders including Wu Chaoan, DuanChanglin, Sun Yuqiu and Wen Yi were also present at the examination.
