Updated: 2018-04-20 15:11:43

Do you know in which year Shashi officially opened its wharf? Do you know what the “foreign wharf” of Shashi in the history is like? Do you ever know that Shashi was once one of the “ten wharfs” along the Yangtze River?

In the third floor of Yuejin Road Community in Shashi District, it is seen by the reporter that more than 30 faded old photos about rusty iron anchors with strong historical atmosphere give people the feeling of backing to the over heating “era of wharf”. The thriving commercial economy boosted the rapid expansion of Shashi in its urban scale, and also attracted a lot of overseas firms to settle down.

After the official operation of wharf inShashi, overseas products such as foreign kerosene, glassware, foreign cloth, and matches could be seen everywhere in the market, which also brought a large number of business opportunities to Shashi. Based on historical materials, only from 1896 to 1898, the export volume of Shashi reached 170 thousand silver liang (1 liang =50 grams) while in the period of the Republic of China, Shashi had already set up 43 wharfs independently and after the founding of the People'sRepublic of China, the light industry of Shashi begun to thrive, promoting the prosperity of its wharfs.
