Jingchu Intangible Project Joint Exhibition of First Session Jingchu Cultural Tourism Festival Opened

On themorning of June 14, the Jingchu Intangible Project Joint Exhibition of FirstSession Jingchu Cultural Tourism Festival was opened in Guangong Park.

Along withthe Jingzhou future folklore performance of Five Crayfishes catfish Playing with Catfish, Standing Committee Member Wu Chaoan of Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Department of Propag and announced the opening of the Jingchu Intangible Project JointExhibition.Vice Mayor Yuqiu Sun attended the opening ceremony.

Folklore performances with much Jingzhou features including Wai Drums ChantingJing River, Mashan Folk Song, Jiulian Lamp, and Deidei Tone brought an audio-visual feast to onsite audiences.Besides excellent performances, state-level and provincial-level intangible cultural heritage projects exhibited at the booths also attracted the eyes’ of the public. At the booth of Chinese embroidery, the Grand View of Auspicious clouds was noteworthy for its bright colorand delicate techniques amazed people. It is the provincial-level intangible cultural heritage project—a work created by Xiansong Zhang, the inheritor ofChinese embroidery, in half a year.

Su embroidery is simple but elegant; Xiangem broidery is harmonious in tone; Shu embroidery is famous for exquisitest itches; and Yue embroidery is complicated but not messy. In comparison,Chinese embroidery is much of Chu culture features. Only with Jingchu elementsand exquisite stitches are there a number of Chinese embroidery works.

Chinese embroidery, local folk embroidery,is originated from Shashi and popular in Han River Valley. In June 2008,Chinese embroidery was approved to be listed into the second group ofstate-level intangible cultural heritage catalogue by the State Council. Zhang Xiansong,77 years old this year, is the only inheritor of provincial-level intangible cultural heritage “Chinese embroidery”.

Besides thelocal intangible cultural heritage projects in Jingzhou, there are a lot of folklore techniques with foreign features. The Jingchu Intangible Project Joint Exhibition of this time gave a lot to craftsmen” from otherplaces. Visiting citizens were amazed by rich intangible heritage projects including Chinese embroidery, root carving, cotton textile, carve patterns andpaper-cut, and wood pictures.

The Jingchu Intangible Project Joint Exhibition also attracted a large number of foreign visitors and Guorui Li was one who came to Jingzhou from Yichang to visit the exhibition in particular. He had a deeper understanding of Jingchu culture aftervisiting the whole exhibition.

This joint exhibition consisted of 31 projects of both Hubei and Hunan Province, including12 state-level intangible culture heritage projects.

It lastedto June 16. During this period, Guangong Park was open for free.
