Clean Water and Blue Lake Jingzhou Building the “Sample of Lake Chang” in Ecological Restoration

The Decision of Firmly Remembering the Trust and Responsibility of Accelerating the High-quality Development of Jingzhou by the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee pointed out to stay steadfastly committed to build a new picture scroll of Beauty in Jingzhou along Yangtze River, accelerate the ecological restoration, promote to return lands to the lake and wetland, and comprehensively carry out the “people putting in and being raised by nature”. The “Clean Action”, clear water protection fight by taking “four major actions” as the main body, obtained positive achievements. Simultaneous-broadcast reporter brought you to have a look at Lake Chang to see how it changed from a lake full of purse seine nets in the past to a beautiful landscape now.

Lake Chang is the third largest lake in Hubei as well as the reserve water source of Jingzhou urban area. By now, actions have been performed in the Jingzhou section of Lake Chang water, such as hunting banning, returning protective embankment to the lake, and desilting clear. Lake Miao is one of the son lakes of Lake Chang. But more, it is an area that has been comparatively seriously polluted. Since February of this year, desilting clear has already been comprehensively launched and more than 2,500 mu have been completed.

Clear the surface lake and the desilting in the bottom of the lake and return protective embankment to the lake. Starting from the positioning of being as an important water source, the ecological environment of Lake Chang has been advanced step by step. Since last year, part of villages in Ji’nan Culture and Tourism Area, including Outer Liutai Fishing Field, and Dongchang Village, have launched the plan of returning protective embankment to the lake, involving more than 6,000-mu farmland, more than 300 families of more than 1,000 people. Up to now, more than 100 families have already moved out. According to the plan, after returning protective embankment to the lake, Ji’nan Culture and Tourism Area will also launch the restoration project of Lake Chang Wetland with a capital of RMB 3 billion.

At the same time, water hyacinth and slligator alternenthera in the Jingzhou section of Lake Chang water will also be comprehensively eliminated. Since January 1st, mackerel state-level fisheries genetic resources protection area in Lake Chang has conducted comprehensive ban on hunting. Illegal hunting behaviors such as “electricity, poison, and bombing”which will make serious influence to ecology will be published severely according to law.

In order to achieve the environmental protection goal of “clean water, blue lake, green bank, and beautiful landscape”, next, Jingzhou will return protective embankment to the lake and wetland of the 6,000 mu land surrounding Lake Chang year by year with plan; and intensify the treatment and management of water source in the entrance which flow into Lake Chang.

According to the statistics, there are 154 rivers which own a watershed area of 50 square kilometers in Jingzhou, and 184 listed protected lakes, and 114 various types of reservoirs. At present, the river, lake and reservoir chef management system has been built while 3,550 four-level chefs have already accepted their posts.

In the past, purse seine nets were everywhere and it was hard for boats to sail. But now, Lake Chang has become another beautiful landscape in Jingzhou.
