On the morning of August 23rd, the issuing ceremony of 2018 “Compassion Fulfilling Dream” autumn study-aid activity was co-hosted by Jingzhou Municipal General Labor Union, Jingzhou Municipal Red Cross Society, and Jianghan Style, a news channel program of Jingzhou TV. This year, Jingzhou Municipal General Labor Union collects an education grant of around RMB 3 million to help more than 1,000 students from impoverished background realize their dreams to enter colleges.
Yuan Defang, Member of Jingzhou Municipal Standing Committee, Director of United Front Work Department of Jingzhou and Chairman of Jingzhou Municipal General Labor Union, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Yuan said that, in recent years, labor unions at all levels have continued to innovate the study-aid carriers, enrich the study-aid forms, and explore the potential of study assistance with great attention and support from Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee and Government, solving the difficult issue of “receiving education” for impoverished families by vigorously performing the activity of “Autumn Study Assistance”. The achievements have been remarkable. It is hoped that labor unions at all levels should expand the financing channels, innovate the study-aid approaches, extend the scope of study assistance, enlarge the effect of assistance work, continue to enhance the social adoption of autumn education assistance and facilitate the assistance work through the efficient operation of labor unions.
Within two months, Jianghan Style told inspirational stories of more than 20 impoverished students with outstanding qualities and exceptional study performance. Among them, Fu Dawei who was born with a humble family background in Ximen has been admitted to Peking University; Wu Qingyun was admitted to Wuhan University of Technology and worked in this summer to earn his tuition; PengYunqing is a top student in science in Shishou who has a dream of going to Silicon Valley, and Zhang Tao whose father passed away is still optimistic and diligent and has obtained a university offer. Through wide promotion, this activity has built a broad interactive charity platform. This year, with the support of Hubei and Jingzhou Red Cross Society, a 2018 Jinghan Style “Compassion Fulfilling Dream” charity fund raising network platform is to be set up and an education donation of around RMB 68,000 has been raised from more than 200 warm-hearted persons.
At the event, more than 20 impoverished outstanding and hardworking students were awarded with the donation. Fu Dawei from Jingzhou Middle School, who was born in a humble family in Ximen has been admitted to Peking University, said that, he was grateful for the help from society and he hoped that, he would live up to the expectation and study hard to finish his study. Besides, a lot of impoverished students also expressed their thanks to warm-hearted people via media. Tan Juqiong, an art student from Shishou who is top two in class hoped to repay these people through her growth and hard work. Gu Ziyan from Jingzhou Middle School said that, he would study hard after entering university and pay back to society by contributing to the development of Jingzhou in the future.
Among all donators at the platform of this autumn public benefit activity, there is a special donation team--- Flamingo Foundation. Today, its founder Liu Xiaoyong, also a Member of the Standing Committeeof Jingzhou Municipal CPPCC was present at the event. He said, the Foundationis established by small and micro businesses, which might not be rich but all havea strong sense of social responsibility and compassion. Next, they will continue to participate in the compassion study assistance to help more impoverished students to realize their college dreams.
It is known by reporter that, this “Compassion Fulfilling Dream” activity also received an education donation of RMB30,000 from Fan Mingwu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering from Jingzhou and former president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. These excellent students all received the loving education grants.
It is said that, “Compassion Fulfilling Dream” autumn study-aid activity has been hosted since 2002. For 16 years, with the strong support from all walks of life, it has collected a capital of more than 30 million and helped 24,000 impoverished students to finish their study, which gave confidence to a lot of poverty-stricken students and changed their destiny.
