Beautiful Jingzhou ancient city symbolizesits profound history and culture. In part regions of the ancient city wall, weeds are growing rampantly and collapsed trees are everywhere, which may cause hidden troubles and affect the landscape of the ancient city. Since today, the soil wall protection and restoration project of Jingzhou city wall has been formally launched, adding further charm and attraction to the old city.

Reporter paid a visit to the ancient city from the old south gate toward the east gate along with the innerring. On this 12-km ancient soil city wall, despite some lush trees, most places are covered with rampant weeds and collapsed trees, which affects the beauty of the ancient city as well as causes transportation difficulty for people to go across the ancient city and stops people from climbing high to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Some soil ancient walls are uneven. Lots of the pathsare very steep. To climb the inner ring of the soil wall seems like to climb cliffs in desperation situation, terrifyingly. The land is overgrown with wildweeds, leaving a deserted and inaccessible impression to people. And people will be more afraid of poisonous snakes and wild animal at the bushes. At the same time, some soil walls are seriously brushed by rain water, and cancollapse easily. Therefore, it is extremely urgent to repair the soil wall.

Ge Zheng, technology head of thisproject, introduced that, this project will cost RMB 11 million with a constructionperiod of 12 months, and it will clear the disease and dead trees on the wall,wipe out brushes and weeds, repair the ponding ground and dangerous slopes, andbuild block walls at the foothill so as to protect the soil wall and makepeople feel relieved when climbing the wall and enjoying the views.

Recently, this project hasalready done the early preparation work. Some workers have already wiped outthe brushes and weeds on the wall. They told reporter that, during the periodof wiping, dangerous animals like snake had not been found yet, partly becausethey might start hibernation for the cold weather.

Mr. Zhao, a local resident, oftentakes a walk on the ancient city wall. He said that, it is a good thing to wipeout the brushes and weeds on the wall and there were also wastes on the wildweed before, which it was not good if visitors see. In particular, visitorscan’t take the road for some people even defecate indiscriminately. Throughclearance, it will help people to change their bad behaviors and be a civilizedcitizen. At the same time, for this ancient city wall reaching a length of morethan 10 km, if toilets are not sufficient along the road, it might causeinconvenience for visitor. He expected that, relevant departments can set upsimple public toilets or sign boards to instruct the venue of toilets to bringconvenience for visitors.
