Updated: 2018-12-07 15:28:52

“National judicial aid” means that the country issues salvage money to people who lives in a difficulty life for hecan’t obtain due effective compensation through lawsuits. To perform judicial aid is an inherent requirement of China’s judicial system as well as a vital part of improving people’s life and advancing social security system. On November 29th, Jingzhou’s first national judicial aid public review meeting was held at Shashi District People's Procuratorate of Jingzhou. Through judicial aid, Wang Yilin, the victim, finally got the salvage money timely.

At 9:00 a. m., on the site of judicial aid public review meeting, Wang Yilin finally got his salvage money, RMB 25,000.When holding this money that is right in need, this over-60-year’s old man was filled with emotion.

In September 2016, he was wounded by his neighbor Pan. After identification, the injury was defined as the secondary. Thus, as the criminal suspect, Pan is sentenced to five years' imprisonment by Shashi District People's Procuratorate of Jingzhou, and compensates more than RMB25,000 of medical expense for Wan Yilin. However, for Pan doesn’t have any ability to make this compensation, Wan Yilin hadn’t gotten this medical expense for a very long time.

Different from the previous national judicial aid cases, this review meeting is the first time that Jingzhou opens the review to the public. The hearing group, consisting of prosecutors, community lawyers, and lawyer representatives performed careful review and supervision to the family condition of Wan Yilin, case details, and judicial procedures, and finally they defined that this case conforms to the standard of national judicial aid. Besides, other three victims also gained their corresponding salvage money.

“Public review” is an important method to deepen the openness of procuratorial affairs. Applying this method for national judicial aid cases will not only improve the credibility of law enforcement, but also be beneficial to help the public safeguard their lawful rights and interests.
