"Empowering the Disabled with Arts, Striving for Self-improvement" Art Exhibition Held at Jingzhou

The early winteris intoxicating with the smell of ink in the air. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening up and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, the "Empoweringthe Disabled with Arts, Striving for Self-improvement" Award-winning Painting, Calligraphy and Photography Works Exhibition sponsored by the Jingzhou DisabledPersons' Federation and the Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles washeld in the Jingzhou Library in the morning of December 12. Leaders present atthe ceremony included the former senior leader of the city and director of theMunicipal Relations Work Committee Yi Faxin, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress Duan Changfeng, secretary of the CPC Committee of the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation Yang Ping, and the CPC Committee secretary and chairman of the Municipal Federation of Literature and Art Lv Jinfang.

In this calligraphy, painting and photography competition, more than 300 entries from philanthropicartists and people with disability from all walks of life were received, with three first prizes, five second prizes, and ten third prizes awarded. Some of theoutstanding works were exhibited. From unique perspective and personal experience, these works extol the Jingchu culture or the spirit of self-improvement of the disabled people. It not only reflects the spirit of thedisabled in the city, but also shows the literary and artistic attainment ofthe city.

Art empowers thedisabled, and encourage them to strive for self-improvement. The event aims to drawthe attention of the whole society to care for and help the disabled throughexhibition, and to promote the development of the disabled people in Jingzhou.At the same time, it is also significant in encouraging the disabled to carryforward the spirit of "self-esteem, self-confidence, self-improvement andself-reliance".

There are 360,000 disabled people in the Jingzhou. In recent years, the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation has made breakthroughs in uniting and leading disabled people and disabled cause related workers in rehabilitation, education, employment, poverty alleviation and social security. The environmentfor the participation of disabled people in social life has significantly improvedand their life quality and level has been constantly improved. The qualifications of the disabled have been obviously enhanced, and their sense ofacquisition, happiness, recognition and belonging has been effectively improvedas well.
