Jingzhou Starts Afforestation along the Yangtze River to Build the Green City Corridor

On December 10, the Municipal Party Committeeand the Municipal Government convened a promotion meeting for the establishmentof a national forest city. At the meeting, they exchanged experience inafforestation and the establishment of forest cities of other cities, andarranged the work of establishing a national forest city and improving ruralenvironment.

Zhou Jing, deputy secretary of theMunicipal Party Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Committee,stressed that it is necessary to further strengthen “green thinking” andearnestly enhance the sense of responsibility and urgency, quickly start theafforestation along the Yangtze River, comprehensively reconstruct thewasteland, fully promote the construction of urban green corridor and speed up thekey projects in the protection and restoration of wetlands, in order to solidlypromote the implementation of the national forest city. Meanwhile, it wasessential to continue to deepen forestry reform, give full play to the role offorestry in rural revitalization, develop forest-related service industry suchas forest recreation, flower and seedling culture, leisure and sightseeing, andwork together to create a national forest city.

Duan Changfeng, deputy director of theStanding Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, and deputy mayor DengYingjun, attended the event. Before the meeting, they visited several scenerysites including the city's green corridor on the north bank of the YangtzeRiver in Jingzhou District, the 100-meter urban green corridor on both sides ofthe new 318 National Road and Shanghai-Chengdu High-speed Railway, the forestvillage next to the Zaolin section of the Jingzhou-Dangyang Tourism Highway, ChuandianDemonstration Base of High Quality Seedlings, Zijing mini forest, Zijing ForestryEcological Tourism Park and the afforestation site.
