Resuming the Wetland Appeal, Jingzhou Is Building a Changhu Lake Model of Ecological Restoration

Ecological restoration is an important thrust in improving the high-quality development of Yangtze River Economic Zone. The Changhu Lake Surrounding Wetland Restoration Project in Jingzhou Ji’nan Ecological Cultural Tourism Area is the main eventfor Jingzhou to implement the strategy of “ecology first & greendevelopment”. The project combines the comprehensive treatment of Four Lake Watershed,ecological protection of Changhu Lake and development of cultural tourismindustry to build an ecological concentrated display area integrating regionallandscape display and lake surrounding landscape along the Changhu Lakesurrounding area. At present, the project has started its construction and isestimated to be completed by the end of 2020.

To mount thelake water with “water filter", the existing lotus pond, fish pond andfarmland shall be conserved and utilized as the green base of the area to themost extent during the project so as to integrate the productive agriculturallandscape and low-maintenance indigenous plants with the landscape design, asper the design plan.

The JingzhouChanghu Lake Surrounding Wetland Restoration Project covers Haizi Lake, MiaohuLake, most areas along Longmen Lake, Jianghan Canal and the coastal region ofTaihugang. The red line has its western boundary on the east side of Ji’nanCity Ruins and starts from Miaohu Lake to the east coast of Haizi Lake. Thetotal planning area is 2,870 hectare, including 1,140 hectare for landscapeplanning and 1,710 hectare of lake area. The general layout is formed as per “threelakes and two zones”, including ten major functional areas: history displayzone, creative flower valley, convalescent tourism destination, flower riverholiday resort, million-mu lotus pond, canal scenery zone, wetland sciencepopularization area, Taihugang leisure zone, lake port fishing street area, andphoenix forest park.

The JingzhouChanghu Lake Surrounding Wetland Restoration Project commenced from thisOctober. Up to now, 400,000 m3 of surface cleaning of wetland sciencepopularization area, 3,000 m3 of surface cleaning of history displayzone and 17,000 m3 of surface cleaning of creative flower valleyhave been completed. By the end of June 2019, the construction of plank road builtalong cliff and part of green construction of four blocks, history displayzone, creative flower valley, canal scenery zone, Jianghan Canal scenery zoneand wetland science popularization area, will be completed, as per the constructionprogress.
