The extended closed season will provide legal support to strikeagainst crimes related to wild birds.

In thesolved cases related to wild birds, people mostly kill wild birds for eating ormake into craft products. In some rural and mountainous areas, people have thetraditions and bad habits of eating wild animals. Meanwhile, if the citizens find any wild birds of unknown origin, don’t breed them arbitrarily so as to avoid the legal responsibility for thedeath due to negligence.

Reducehuman intervention and protect wild birds

Wetlandsenjoy the most diverse ecosystem and birds are the indispensable part. Manywetlands in Jingzhou are ideal places for bird observation. The Jingzhou BirdObservation Association has been devoted to promoting the reproduction andprotection of wild birds by observing the migration and habitat of wild birds.

Birdsare very sensitive to environment changes. The distribution and quantity ofbirds are closely related to wetland vegetation and benthic organisms.Discoveryis the first step to conduct protection. Nowadays, about 301 kinds of wildbirds have been observed in Jingzhou.

Accordingto Mr. Liu Huanong, secretary-general of the Jingzhou Bird ObservationAssociation, some rare and endangered species have been discovered in Jingzhou, such as the Baer's pochard and the white crane.

Jingzhouenjoys abundant wetland resources, including the river wetlands formed by theYangtze River and four rivers in southern Jingzhou, the lake wetlands formed byHonghu Lake and Changhu Lake. The whole city has about 342,000 hectares ofwetlands in total. The Yangtze River flows through the whole city with about184 lakes of various sizes.Forthe wild birds, it is an important migration passage and ideal place forhabitation and reproduction.

Especiallyin winter, many birds will migrate to spend the winter here. So, it’s also agood opportunity for bird observation.

Thewhole city is surrounded by wetlands while the wetlands are inhabited by thewild birds. Whenever the rare birds appear in the lens of the bird observers, they are always full of excitement. These wonderful creatures make people trulyfeel the happiness of harmonious coexistence between the man and the nature. However, the human activities will also frighten these cute animals sometimes.

Apartfrom protecting the natural environment to create a suitable living space forwild birds, it is also necessary to fight against people’s behaviors of hurtingwild birds, including the slingshots, bird traps, illegal breeding as well asselling and processing wild bird products. The extended closed season willprovide forceful guarantees to protect the wild birds and reduce humanintervention.
