2018 marks the start of the"rural rejuvenation" strategy. Jingzhou has sped up the change in themode of agricultural development, stuck to the concept of ecology priority andgreen development, and advanced the agricultural supply-side structural reform.To date, Jingzhou's paddy field planting & breeding area and annual crayfishoutput have reached 2.54 million mu and 338,000 tons respectively. The planting-breedingmodel has not only broadened farmers' channel of income increase, but alsoaroused farmers' enthusiasm about farming.

Wan Zhengyuan resides in DaxingVillage, Huangxiekou Town, Jianli County. Last year, instructed by localagricultural technologists, he attempted to plant 2 mu of ratoon rice andearned more than 3,000 yuan per mu. He optimistic about the ratoon rice markettold the press that he would buy 12 mu of ratoon rice seedling this year.

According to Bi Lixia, Chairwomanof Jianli Xinghua Professional Agricultural Machinery Cooperative, as a majorrice ratoon planting county in Hubei, Jianli achieved a rice ratoon harvest lastyear and more farmers switched to ratoon rice this year. To meet farmers' need,the cooperative has changed its order scheme, vigorously popularized theefficient model of ratoon rice planting and offered farmers one-stop andfull-process mechanical services including rice seedling cultivation,transplant, pesticide control and harvesting.

To push for the supply-side structuralreform of agriculture, Jingzhou has taken green rice, green aquatic productsand other green agricultural products as a prosperous industry in its effortsto create a rural rejuvenation demonstration zone in Jianghan Plain. In 2018,the structural differentiation of Jingzhou's planting industry has intensified,which is reflected in the decrease in the planting area of grain, oil andcotton and the increase in the planting area of melon, fruit and vegetable. In2018, Jingzhou's ratoon rice area continued to increase to 1.114 million mu, up438,000 mu from 2017; Jingzhou's planting-breeding area reached 2.54 millionmu, up 307,000 mu from 2017. Through the industry chain of green rice and greenaquatic products, with "Fuwa", "Honghulang" and otherbrands as basis, Jingzhou has further driven enterprises to build bases andcontact farm households, organically integrated small farm households withmodern agriculture, and laid the foundation for the continuous income increaseof farmers. 

While adjusting and optimizingits planting-breeding model, Jingzhou has stuck to the concept of ecologypriority and green development, driven agricultural transformation throughenvironmental protection, and advanced green planting and healthy breeding. By2020, Jingzhou will achieve a "crayfish breeding + rice planting"area of 4 million mu and achieve the goal of "4561" for the crayfishindustry ("4561" represents a breeding area of 4 million mu, anannual output of 500,000 tons, an output value of 60 billion yuan and increasingfarmers' income by more than 10 billion yuan).
