Jingzhou to Launch its Largest-ever Ancient City Population Relocation Plan

Theproposal on speeding up the functional dispersal and population evacuation ofJingzhou Ancient City, and promoting the protection and tourism resources developmentof the ancient city has always been a key proposal discussed at Jingzhou's two municipalsessions.

Therelocation of Jingzhou High School and Jingzhou Central Hospital haseffectively driven the population evacuation of the ancient city. This yearJingzhou District will relocate its district-level administrative center.Driven by the relocation of Jingzhou's four leading bodies, Jingzhou's nearly40 district-level administrative institutions will relocate successively,marking the full launch of Jingzhou's largest-ever ancientcity population relocation plan since its founding.

TheMaster Urban Plan of Jingzhou (2011-2020)approved by the State Council on May 30, 2011 expressly called for efforts tobuild Jingzhou into a renowned domestic and foreign tourist destination with anurban permanent population of 60,000 by 2020. With a total building area of3.263 million square meters and 199 entities, Jingzhou Ancient City attracts flocksof visitors every year. Particularly, with the increase in the number ofprivate cars in recent years, the ancient city has been overwhelmed bypressure.

4.5-square-kilometerJingzhou Ancient City has a permanent population of more than 100,000, comparableto Beijing and Shanghai in terms of population density. If 50,000 or 60,000 peopleare evacuated from the ancient city, problems such as high population densityand heavy traffic congestion will be solved effectively.

Referringto the mass relocation plan of Jingzhou District, Xia Guanghong, Head ofJingzhou District said that the district committee and government would play amodel and leading role in the relocation. The temporary site of thedistrict-level administrative center outside the ancient city has been surveyedpreliminarily.

Accordingto the notice of the General Office of the Jingzhou District People'sGovernment on decomposing and implementing the tasks specified in the 2019 Government Work Report, the JingzhouGovernment Office Service Center (JGOSC) has initiated the relocation of thedistrict-level administrative center, worked out a list of relocated entities, comprehensivelyfound out their general information including staffing and office area, and draftedthe preliminary office occupancy plan of the Jingzhou Administrative ServiceCenter, to speed up the evacuation efforts of the ancient city, said a head ofthe Jingzhou Government Office Service Center.
