Protection of Yangtze River: Complete Closure from Ship to River Bank, Construct Green Harbor Area in Jingzhou
Updated: 2019-07-05 17:26:09

Jingzhou is the city at the prefecture level whichhas the longest coastline of the Yangtze River in Hubei province. A 483km-longsection of the Yangtze River runs through the whole territory from west to east. All counties and cities are established along the river. By adhering to take theroad of ecological priority and green development, Jingzhou strives to promotethe construction of green ports and green waterways, construct an efficientintelligent energy-saving system, and solidly promote the creation of greenports and waterways. Thus, a green ecological development path has been openedup.

This is the comprehensive wharf of Libu Port. The cranes standing on the Yangtze River are hoisting busily. Corresponding tothem are three berths under trial operation. Standing at the dock and looking overthe harbor area, you can see the 20-meter-high sand-gravel collection centralwarehouse is under intensive construction. The surrounding vacant lots are fullof flowers, green plants and trees. It is understood that according to theapproved construction scale, six berths with an annual throughput of 3.5million tons will be designed at Libu Port, with a total investment of 450million yuan.

Wang Renmei, deputy general manager of JingzhouInvestment Company of Hubei Transportation Investment Group, said: "Atpresent, according to the requirements made by General Secretary Xi duringinspection of the Yangtze River, i.e. green environmental protection andhigh-quality development, the total investment in infrastructure, equipmentselection, clean energy utilization and rain pollution discharge exceeds 30%,basically meeting the requirements of ecology, green and environmentalprotection."

It is understood that after the completion of No.5 and No. 6 berths, it will be the first sand-gravel gathering center inJingzhou City which is planned to be put into operation at the end of June.Compared with other port areas, complete enclosure is made from ship to loadingarea, so as to keep the sand-gravel from falling off during the loading andunloading from ship to river bank.

Through years of construction and development,Yanka Port Area has become a first-class modern large-scale comprehensive portarea in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River. It is an importantlogistics base in the plain areas in Hubei and Hunan. In order to ensure thesustainable and healthy development of the port area, the concept of safedevelopment and green development should be put into practice. In order toavoid minerals, fertilizers and grains from scattering during the shipment, causing a negative impact on the ecological environment of the Yangtze River, YankaPort Area actively communicates and cooperates with shipping companies tovigorously carry out the transportation characterized by "decentralizationtransformed to integration".

Zhu Chen Tao, assistant general manager ofJingzhou Port Yanka Container Co., Ltd., said: "In order to protect theecology of the Yangtze River, we actively promote the project of“decentralization transformed to integration”, and change the bulk shipment of chemicalfertilizer, grain, sulphur, metal ore and other goods into container logisticsmode. Last year, the overall throughput of our port was more than 5 milliontons, and the throughput under the project of “decentralization transformed tointegration” reached 1.2 million tons, accounting for more than 20% of thetotal.”

In the past, in the process of loading andunloading at bulk cargo wharf, a large amount of dust was produced, when strongwind blew, dust rose from all directions, polluting the surrounding environment.Through the logistics mode of “decentralization transformed to integration”,the leakage and scattering of dust can be avoided effectively, so as to avoidpolluting the Yangtze River, reduce the loss of goods, while improvingtransport efficiency. Zhu Chentao said: "Next step, we will continue topromote the project of “decentralization transformed to integration”, reducetransport pollution, build a green port, protect our mother river, and achievegreen and high-quality development."
