Haizi Lake Crossing Super-Large Bridge -the World’s Longest Continuous Bridge Has Successfully Closed
Updated: 2019-09-20 10:42:15

As the main road for Jingzhou City to developto the north, Chudu Avenue Project will also be the main road for travel of Ji'nanEco-Cultural Tourist Area in the north of the city. The Haizi Lake crossing Super-LargeBridge - the key control project of the Chudu Avenue Phase II, is the mainaccess to the Jingzhou Garden Expo Park. With the approaching of the Second HubeiProvince Garden Expo, how about the construction of Haizi Lake Crossing Super-LargeBridge?

After one year and eight months of intensiveconstruction, the Haizi Lake crossing Super-Large Bridge successfully closed inthe early morning on September 1st, laying a solid foundation for the completionof the whole line of Chudu Avenue.

The Haizi Lake crossing Super-Large Bridge startsfrom the intersection of Chudu Avenue and Fenghuang Avenue in the south, andreaches Shao Jia Zui in the north shore of Miao Lake to the north. With alength of 1,434 meters and a width of 34 meters, the Haizi Lake crossing Super-LargeBridge has two-way six lanes and a designed speed of 50 kilometers per hour, paralleling to the Jingsha local railways to the north. It is worth noting thatthe bridge is a continuous beam bridge with closure of 15 spans and 1,434meters, the total length of which is the longest among bridges of the same typeboth at home and abroad. There are basically no mature engineering examples ofbridges with such span and length, thus bringing about the enormously high riskin quality and safety during the construction.

In addition, due to a total of 15 jointsections in the single closure of the whole bridge, the experts carried outseveral meetings to research the closure order, closure technics and closuretime, etc., in order to ensure the optimality of internal force and deformationof super long box girder. New breakthrough has been made in putting forward the8 step-closure thought of Haizi Lake crossing Super-Large Bridge, ensuring theinternal force and deformation of whole 1,434-meter box girder feasible intheory and controllable under construction.

Qi Zipeng, the engineering director of projectdepartment of the Chudu Avenue Phase II Project of China Railway Seventh Group, said that 18 sets of hanging baskets were put into the construction of ChuduAvenue Haizi Lake crossing Super-Large Bridge at a time with a total weight ofmore than 6,000 tons. The longest span of Haizi Lake crossing Super-LargeBridge is 156 meters. The highest height of the Zero Block is 12 meters, whichis the first case in China.

The smooth closure of the last span of thebridge marks the completion of the superstructure of the Haizi Lake crossing Super-LargeBridge. At present, the bridge decking is under construction in a large area. The construction includes: installation of ultra-high strength concreterailings with a height of 1.2 meters; construction of pavements, roof beams andbridge deck pavement.

Qi Zipeng said, 80% of the bridge deckconstruction has been completed currently, and work on blackening the rightside of the bridge deck is expected to be completed on September 10 to reachthe traffic conditions, while the left side on September 18.

The Haizi Lake crossing Super-Large Bridge isan archaized landscape bridge. There are altogether four archaized buildings onthe side of the bridge, which are designed and built based on the ancientbuildings of Chu and Han States. After the completion of the bridge, pedestrians can walk to the opposite side of the bridge from these fourarchaized buildings.

These four archaize buildings are all solidwood structures, using high-quality pineapple lattice wood imported fromAfrica. This kind of wood, featured by hard and bright quality, dense texture,no deformation, no cracking, anti-corrosion and wear-resistance, is one of thefamous hardwoods. At the same time, in order to highlight the localcharacteristics of Jingzhou, the designer also sets up "soaring goldenphoenix "-the landmark totem of Jingzhou on the top of the antiquearchitecture.

The Chudu Avenue Phase II Project is locatedin the Haizi Lake Eco-Cultural Tourist Area in the Ji’nan city of Chu State, spanning the rivers and cannels of diverting water from Jing Jiang to Han Jiangand Haizi Lake. It’s composed of the road project of Chudu Avenue and the ChuduAvenue Haizi Lake crossing Bridge, with the total length of 4 kilometers. Theroad project takes two-way 6 lanes as main line and two-way 2 lanes asauxiliary road. The designed speed of the main road is 60 kilometers per hour. It’s the main access to the Jingzhou Garden Expo Park.

Shilong Xu, the Party Branch Secretary of ChuduAvenue Project Department of China Railway Seventh Group, said that it wouldonly take 10 minutes to get to Garden Expo Park from Jingzhou Railway Stationafter the completion. Now, part of the road construction has been basicallycompleted, and only the bridge deck auxiliary project of the Haizi Lake crossingSuper-Large Bridge is still to be completed. It is expected that all theprojects will be completed before September 25. We will ensure the opening ofthe whole bridge on schedule and an unimpeded access to Garden Expo Park, providinga convenient and fast traffic channel for the general public.
