The Marathon Makes More People Fall in Love with Jingzhou

In an ancient city, many people could be seen running andcheering. This is just the charm and motivation of a marathon. The 2019Jingzhou International Marathon came to an end yesterday (October 20), but thespirit of the marathon has been deeply imprinted in the hearts of the Jingzhou residents.Through the competition, which has been running for three consecutive years,more and more people fall in love with the city, which was “the ancient capitalof the Chu State” and “a famous city during the Three Kingdom Period.”

A total of 20,019 people applied for participation in the2019 Jingzhou International Marathon, which coincides with the number of theyear. The 20,019 runners who were standing at the starting point and showingtheir self-confidence and healthy bodies and spectators several times thenumber of the runners formed a unique cultural landscape for the Jingzhou InternationalMarathon.

A marathon opens Jingzhou to the rest of the world. Inthe past two years, a total of over 150 foreign runners from more than 30countries and tens of thousands of Chinese runners have competed. With theparticipation of people from all over the world, the Jingzhou International Marathonattracted enormous attention. Witnessed by all participants, the 2018 Jingzhou InternationalMarathon was awarded by the Chinese Athletics Association as a Silver MedalMarathon Event and "the most beautiful track" of special events. Accordingto the official website of People’s Daily, the Jingzhou International Marathonranks 34th among the top 100 national marathon events and second withinthe province, only next to the Wuhan International Marathon. This year, theJingzhou International Marathon enrolled runners from 34 provinces andmunicipalities across the country, and the top five were Hubei, Hunan,Guangdong, Chongqing and Beijing. Among the runners, 8,327 were locals and 11,692were from other provinces and municipalities. Spectators are allowed to cheerfor runners anywhere along the track, which is an important feature of theJingzhou International Marathon, and the track was upgraded again this year. Inaddition to the music supply stations set at an interval of one kilometer alongthe track, girls in ancient costumes were could be seen at the supply stations,reflecting the cultures of the Three Kingdoms and the Chu State, which areunique to Jingzhou; meanwhile, professional entertainers, young boys and girlswere organized into cheering teams to show the youth and vitality of Jingzhou,so that the runners could feel enthusiasm of the Jingzhou residents.

This year was also the third time that Jingzhou TV Stationhas broadcast a marathon event live. According to statistics from Nielsen-CCData,the ratings of the marathon on the News Channel reached 46.5% during thebroadcast, 43.32% higher than the previous year and nearly 3% higher than thisyear’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala. The monopoly on viewing was obvious, andnearly half of the city’s residents watched the live broadcast of the marathonon the News Channel of Jingzhou TV.

At the same time, “Wireless Jingzhou”, the new media ofthe Jingzhou TV Station, Jingzhou News, Music Radio963, FM90.1 and otherplatforms were all broadcasting this event live, with 3 million people watchingonline. The massive publicity on various media outlets has improved thepopularity and reputation of Jingzhou, enhanced the sense of honor andself-confidence of the Jingzhou people, led to a fitness boom in Jingzhou, and laida solid foundation for a “healthy Jingzhou.”

In order to greet runners of the marathon from all overthe world, various scenic spots in Jingzhou were open to the runners andreferees for free or at a discount during October 18-21. For instance, Binyang House,Zhang Juzheng's Former Residence, Guan Gong Park were for free, and theChariots and Horses of the King of Chu was at half price. The Jingzhou Marathonintegrated with cultural tourism to enliven the city. 

People just ran a marathon to better understand the city.The route of this year’s marathon was still characterized by “one river, twocities and three districts”. From industrial new districts to skyscrapers, fromreal estate districts to the ancient cities on the banks of the river, the trackof the Jingzhou International Marathon told endless stories of Jingzhou and theancient Chu State. Among the runners, reporters saw some entrepreneurs andforeign investors, such as Chen Lichtenstein, president and CEO of Adama,Hanlin, and Yan Guangming, project manager of the World Bank. They have settledin Jingzhou, invested in Jingzhou and achieved win-win cooperation.

Jingzhou extends a warm and sincere welcome to investorsfrom all over the world. Here, people can run the marathon around the city,enjoy the beautiful scenery and culture, and develop industries together.
