Key Project Tracking: Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project Is Expected to Be Completed by the End of the Year

The reporterrecently learned that the Hubei Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project(Jingzhou Part), as a water conservancy improvement project to make up for theinsufficient embankment capacity of Changhu and with a total investment of 380million yuan, has completed 95% of the overall project and is expected to becompleted by the end of this year. At that time, Changhu embankment will beable to withstand the once-in-a-century flood.

Located in thenorth of Jingzhou City and the upper reaches of the Four-lake Basin, Changhu,known as “a basin of water over Jingzhou”, is the key and difficult task in theflood control of Jingzhou City. Hubei Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project(Jingzhou Part) has been in full swing since it started in December 2017.

In the northbank of Tai Hu Gang in Jingzhou District, the reporter saw the clear water andclean roads. Many citizens did physical exercises on waterborne platform andwalkway. According to the head of Jingzhou District Changhu Engineering Administration Bureau,Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project (Jingzhou Part) is 11 km in length. Inaddition to embankment reinforcement and road hardening at the embankment top,the project also involves the construction of urban landscape such aswaterborne platform and walkway. At present, 95% of the project has beencompleted and the project is close to being finished.

Confirmed withflood situation over the years and the current project situation, Changhu isessential to the flood control of Four-lake Basin, and Shashi is essential tothe flood control of Changhu. When the reporter came to the construction siteof the Sixth Section of Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project (JingzhouPart), the construction workers were building the wave wall. It is understoodthat the wave wall is 8 km in length, and 3.5 km has been completed so far. Thewave wall is 0.9 m to 1 m high and 0.2 m wide, which can effectively improvethe flood control standard of the existing lake embankment in Shashi. Atpresent, 73% of the project has been completed.

According to thehead of Engineering Construction Management Department of Changhu EmbankmentReinforcement Project (Jingzhou Part) of Four-lake Engineering Administration Bureau, afterthe completion of the reinforcement project, Changhu Lake Embankment will beupgraded from a three-level embankment to a first-level embankment, and fromthe previous standard of once-in-20-to-50-years flood to the standard ofonce-in-a-century flood.

It is reportedthat Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project (Jingzhou Part) is 66.3 km inlength, with 10 sections and a construction period of 2 years. The completionof Changhu Embankment Reinforcement Project plays a very important role inensuring the safety of flood control and drainage and food, improving theecological environment of the lake and promoting regional economic developmentin Changhu Basin.
