To Protect the Ecological Environment, more than 1,000 Fishing Boats on Changhu Within the Jurisdiction of Jingzhou Have Been Dismantled

Changhu, thethird largest lake in Hubei Province, is known as “a basin of water overJingzhou”. In order to strengthen the ecological restoration and protectionmanagement of Changhu, more than 110 fishing boats in Dongchang Village, JinanCulture & Tourism District, were dismantled by Jingzhou Changhu Ecological Management Bureauthis morning (October 29). It is also the last stop for the dismantling offishing boats on Changhu since July 25 this year.

At 9 am, at theDongchang Ferry, Jinan Culture & Tourism District, Jingzhou City, thereporter saw several fishing boats being dismantled in a burst of mechanicalnoise. The dismantling of fishing boats on Changhu has been supported by nearbyfishermen, including villager Li Wanfu. Now he has changed his line of businessby contracting the fish pond. He not only has a stable income, but also makescontributions to the ecological protection in Changhu.

Last July, acomprehensive ban on fishing was implemented in Changhu Basin, Jingzhou. Inorder to consolidate the achievements of the comprehensive ban on fishing, thedismantling of fishing boats on Changhu began on July 25 this year. Inaccordance with the unified standards, dismantling by division and territorialmanagement, Jingzhou Changhu Ecological Management Bureau started from SanzhouVillage, Guanyindang Town, Shashi District, and dismantled more than 1100fishing boats on Changhu in nearly three months. The wastes of the dismantledboats were also cleaned.

Fishermen willbe compensated after the dismantling of fishing boats is completed, accordingto the Dismantling and Compensation Scheme for Fishing Boats on Changhu,Jingzhou, issued in May. Fishermen who fail to disassemble their fishingboats shall not be allowed to fish in the lake, or they will be subject tocriminal punishment once they are caught.

According toWang Fajun, Chief of Comprehensive Law Enforcement Section, Changhu EcologicalManagement Bureau, the Bureau will carry out joint law enforcement with PublicSecurity Department and Jingmen Changhu Administration Bureau, to intensifyefforts to crack down on illegal fishing in the lake, such as electric fishingand trap fishing, and to truly realize clean water, green shore and beautifulscenery.
