[Improvement in Rural Residential Environment] Makes Lianshan Village a Knockout Among Rural Tourism Sites

This December will cheer uptravel enthusiasts who want to pamper themselves during their holidays but haveno idea of where to go, in that the Lianshan village in Mashan town, Jingzhoudistrict is expected to become a weekend holiday resort known far and wide, featuringbeautiful waterscape and thick village atmosphere. At that time, tourists cango fishing, do exercises, have picnics, pick fruit and vegetables, taste farmhousemeals, live in farmhouses, drink farmhouse tea, learn farm work, and enjoyauthentic village lifestyle.

To make Lianshan village both “impressiveand nostalgic in regard of mountains and waters” and as convenient and clean ascities, this year, the village officials have mapped out a plan to improve therural residential environment, aiming to make the village a knockout amongrural tourism sites.

Covering an area of 10,500 mu,Lianshan village is located in the east of Mashan town. It is surrounded bymountains and waters and has a beautiful environment. With theJingzhou-Dangyang Tourism Road passing through, the village is rich in uniquetourism resources along the road, and serves as the demonstration village of“Beautiful Village” in Jingzhou district. The village develops industriesdominated by rice, flower seedlings and aquaculture. It has 6,550 mu rice fieldswith an annual value of production output of 1.3 million yuan, 2,870 mu flowerseedling fields with an annual production output of 900,000 yuan, and 1,000 muaquaculture areas, with an annual production output of 3 million yuan.

“In order to improve thehappiness of villagers, we are proactively exploring new ways to make the villagemore beautiful and farmers richer, in addition to tidying the environment andimproving the transportation efficiency.” Zhang Zhixi, Party branch secretaryof Lianshan village, visited the Team One of Lianshan village on October 30 tocoordinate and supervise the signature tourism projects - the fruit-pickinggarden, parent-child fitness and recreation area and “childhood nostalgia” area- which are still under construction. He was pleased to say that Li Yihua, asuccessful fellow villager, donated 1 million yuan in September to help launchthe rural residential environment improvement campaign.

In the past few days, theinstallation of swings, outdoor walking machines, twisters, horizontal bars,table tennis tables, benches and other fitness equipment and leisure facilitiesin Team One, Lianshan village is proceeding in an orderly manner. All thehouses have been painted in gray or white. Villagers plant flowers in front oftheir gate, plant bamboo in their yard and farm fish in their pool. Well-decoratedwooden or stone fences set up around the gardens can be seen everywhere, showinga picture of a flourishing new rural lifestyle.

“In the past, the village wasfull of wasteland and outgrown glasses and villagers even had nowhere to setfoot on.” Wu Dongfang, a villager from Team One, is a tiler in his 50s. He performedhis specialty in the rural residential environment improvement campaign bytaking part in the construction of the square. He said, since the village authorityhelped paint walls of their houses, install fitness facilities, and developtourism projects, their home has been spacious and brighter, their relativesand friends have been more willingly to visit, and even young fellow villagers workingoutside are gradually returning home.

Lianshan village authority aimsto build their village a beautiful and lively landmark tourism site with uniquerural characteristics. In the practice of rural residential environmentimprovement, Lianshan village has tailor-made their improvement plan based onlocal resource conditions by renovating houses, pruning landscape trees,planting fruit trees, planting lawns, constructing drainage systems, pedestrianwalkways, squares, and pavilions, and installing street lamps and road fences. 

“Transform agricultural areasinto scenic spots, countryside into gardens, rural houses into accommodation houses,agricultural products into commodities...” Through the rural residentialenvironment improvement campaign, Lianshan village has well protected the greenmountains and rural scenery, retained the unique rural flavor and style, anddelivered its promise of building “a landscape scroll-like happy village.”
