First Case! COVID-19 Recovered Patient in Jingzhou Donates 200ml Plasma
Updated: 2020-02-21 09:30:00

On February 19, Ms. Fei, a COVID-19 patient who recovered and was discharged, donated 200ml plasma in a blood donation vehicle of Jingzhou Central Hospital, the first of its kind in Jingzhou city. It is also the first donation in Hubei province outside Wuhan.

On January 21, Ms. Fei returned to Jingzhou from Wuhan, and went to hospital because of coughing and chest distress, who was later diagnosed as a COVID-19 case and admitted to Jingzhou First People's Hospital. On February 10, through the careful treatment by doctors and nurses, she recovered and was officially discharged from hospital. During her treatment, Ms. Fei was meticulously cured and cared by medical workers, of which she was very grateful. “My hometown Jingzhou is always the best place,” she said to her family members and friends most often. A few days ago, she learned from the news that plasma donated from recovered COVID-19 patients is an efficient way to save other patients, so when the blood center called her and solicited her opinions, she agreed to save others with her plasma without any hesitation. In about half an hour, Ms. Fei has joyfully fulfilled her wish in a blood donation vehicle.

In addition to all-around tests in accordance with the relevant requirements of voluntary blood donation and plasma donation, plasma donated by her will also undergo the nucleic acid and specific antibody titer testing of COVID-19 at the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group (CNBG), as well as plasma virus inactivation, so as to ensure product safety.

It's learned that after receiving a notice of the provincial blood management center on collecting plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients on February 17, the Jingzhou Blood Center immediately organized a meeting to make arrangements, and specially allocated a large blood donation vehicle to park in front of the internal medicine building of the Jingzhou Central Hospital, used as a dedicated place for plasma donation by recovered COVID-19 patients till the end of the epidemic. The blood center closely cooperates with the working group of CNBG for the project of plasma collection and treatment from recovered COVID-19 patients to ensure the safe and smooth collection. As the recruitment of plasma donation by recovered patients and plasma collection proceeds, it will give COVID-19 patients in this city more chances to be cured.
