Hainan medical team takes over HFPH, frontline witnesses "spirit of coconut tree"
Updated: 2020-02-24 09:07:00

Hainan has sent 62 medical workers to support Honghu in Covid-19 treatment. Since they fully took over the Fourth People's Hospital of Honghu (HFPH) on February 16, 22 patients had been discharged from the hospital within only 5 days by 9 pm February 20.

"This is Honghu, Hubei Province, you can see a medical waste truck right behind me that contains medical waste from Covid-19 patients. The Fourth People's Hospital of Honghu behind me designated to treat Covid-19 patients is the first local hospital fully taken over by the Hainan medical team upon their arrival in Hubei," said Guo Yao, a journalist of Hainan TV.

HFPH has admitted 212 patients, including a record 114 patients a day. The medical workers are mainly from Hainan General Hospital (HGH) and Sanya People's Hospital. In the last few days, they have fought the epidemic on the frontline together with local medical workers.

The Hainan medical team brought experts at intensive care, respiratory medicine, cardiology and infection control. They have worked out scientific and effective treatment schemes according to the seriousness of patients' conditions.

"They have played a decisive role in treatment, medical safety and personal protection, without them, we would not have hung on till now," said Miao Wanqing, President of HFPH.

Through unremitting efforts, the discharge rate of patients has soared to effectively alleviate the Covid-19 crisis in Honghu.

"There were 96 patients when we took over the hospital, but the ward is full now and 20 patients are in critical conditions," said Chen Tao, Vice President of HGH. "But the number of critically ill patients plunged within only 5 days. Now there are only 5 patients in critical conditions."
