A Post-90s Couple Join Anti-epidemic Fight, Serve People as Volunteers
Updated: 2020-02-28 12:54:00

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, a large number of volunteers have devoted themselves to community prevention and control. In Chongwen Sub-district, a post-90s couple actively applied for serving residents in the frontline of community prevention and control.

At 9 a.m., Gong Xinxin, a volunteer from a community in Chongwen Sub-district, came to the Wushang Hypermarket and purchased supplies for community residents. Each day, volunteers will buy rice, fruits and snacks at supermarkets for residents. Gong is responsible for physical work, while his wife collects the shopping lists of residents in chat groups.

Volunteers are traveling through supermarkets. Gong recorded goods required by each household on his mobile phone, and looked for the supplies, with one hand pulling a shopping cart. Sometimes when he met some acquaintances, he would help out.

It is not easy to find every good on shopping lists from a wide variety of goods in a supermarket. Sometimes missing one or two goods is unavoidable. After Gong checked out and separately packed the supplies, his wife Zhang Mengting double checked them. Through collaboration, the couple finished counting very soon. They went back to the community, and respectively distributed them to residents.

During distribution, a resident called the community, saying a family member aged almost 90 with difficulty in mobility, hasn't urinated for a few days, and urgently needs to be sent to the hospital. As the situation was urgent, Gong let her wife continue to distribute the supplies, and he, along with several community volunteers, went to the home of the senior citizen, moved him to the car downstairs, and sent him to the Second Hospital of Jingzhou on Zhongshan Road. Through treatment, the senior citizen was not seriously hurt.

Gong said that such a situation occurred almost each day. Starting from January 27, he became a volunteer of the anti-epidemic fight, but to his surprise, his wife Zhang Mengting not only showed the strong support, but also together joined the volunteer team.

They were both born in 1991, and are less than 30 years old this year. However, in face of the epidemic, they did not stay at home, but chose to confront it. On January 30, 3,000 cartons of disinfectants were sent to Jingzhou, and Gong participated in the unloading. During loading off, he accidentally twisted his waist, but rapidly devoted to the volunteer work after resting for a few days. The husband's spirit of no fear of any difficulty has also influenced his wife, who said that as a young Party member, she should rush to the frontline and contribute her strength to the community.
