Tribute to Nurses in Guangdong Medical Team Aiding Jingzhou, the Brightest Stars in Patients' Eyes
Updated: 2020-03-12 10:42:00

For COVID-19 patients being treated in quarantine, in a relatively isolation state from the outside world, it is easier for them to feel restless, depressed and lonely. A group of nurses from the Guangdong medical team aiding Jingzhou are trying the best to warm the hearts of patients with their laughter and tears. They are the brightest stars in the eyes of patients.

Liu Jijin, a critically ill patient, had abscesses on his hips after having been bedridden for a long time. Having learned this situation at work, Zheng Lisi, a nurse from the Guangdong medical team aiding Jingzhou, cured his abscesses with medicine she brought from Guangzhou.

In ICU wards, having heard piercing alarm sounds of ventilators and moaning sounds of pain more often despite warm greetings from nurses, a patient wished to give up the treatment, which really worried nurses.

Zheng said: “If you die like that, what did we come all the way here for? I came here to help you and save you. If you die like that, won't you feel sorry for us and your family members? At that time, the patient cried, so did I and his supervising nurse.”

Amid the epidemic, nurses shared weal and woe and held on with patients.

At 8 a.m., head nurse Cheng Lifang and her colleagues walked into quarantine wards. She specially told nurses to bring Guangdong-style stewed soup to Mei Jiangfeng, a patient in Bed 12 of COVID-19 ICU wards at Jingzhou Central Hospital.

Ten days ago, Mei struggled with death, and felt desperate about the future. The care from nurses brought him the courage to fight against the disease.

“The song Stay Strong has given me more courage, and helped me gradually recover and get discharged, so we should feel confident about ourselves,” said Mei Jiangfeng. “One day, a doctor asked me whom will you wish to see most after being discharged? I replied doctors and nurses.”
