520,000 primary and secondary school students keep learning online amid class suspension
Updated: 2020-03-30 08:54:00

Work and production resumption is in full swing in all walks of life, but students are still learning online. How is it going with online teaching during epidemic prevention and control? How is the acceptability of online teaching to teachers and students? Has the date of school reopening been determined? On March 29, the production team of Industrial Ethics Hotline "Fighting Epidemic, Promoting Production" Live Program visited the Jingzhou Education Bureau (JEB), as well as some primary and secondary schools, to communicate citizens' concerns with the audience and internet users.

At Jingzhou Middle School, Wu Aihua, Director of the Office of Audio-visual Education, said the school has attached great importance to constructing informatization equipment and improving the ability of teachers and students to use information technology though it is a rural school. During Covid-19 prevention and control, the school's operation center and network center has provided technical support for solving difficulties and problems encountered by teachers and students.

"As some students' network terminal devices do not meet the requirements of online teaching, the logistics office will handle it later. For those not up to network standards, we will provide broadband service to meet relevant requirements."

At Huangjiatang Primary School in Shashi District, Zheng Jie, Director of the Office of Science and Education, demonstrated online teaching in a network classroom. She told that students are universally enthusiastic about online learning. For her part, she has not only imparted knowledge, but also paid attention to students' mental health by regularly communicating with them to make them study healthily and happily at home.

"There are English rap and bilingual stories on the English platform, hopefully you will live and study happily and grow healthily, I look forward to meeting you again at the school."

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, schools in Jingzhou have organized online teaching based on the requirements of "keeping teaching away from schools and keeping learning amid class suspension". The Jingzhou Educational Equipment and Informatization Management Center has been responsible for teaching resources planning, technical support and guidance in online teaching. Now online teaching is in good order in Jingzhou, 526,900 students of 658 schools in Jingzhou are studying online, and teachers have given 15,490 classes.

"We selected 9 educational institutions, worked out and issued the Operational Guide for Free Support to Online Teaching Platforms in Jingzhou during Epidemic Prevention and Control, and established a technical team with the institutions to offer online technical training to teachers in Jingzhou," said Chen Qinghua, Executive Deputy Director General of JEB.

The date of school reopening is jointly determined by the local epidemic prevention and control headquarters and the superior competent authority, the specific date should be based on the situation of epidemic prevention and control and social work arrangements, and there is not specific date yet, said Chen. While conducting epidemic prevention and control, JEB is preparing for school reopening. Once determined, the specific date will be made public at the earliest possible time.

"This week we held a work meeting on epidemic prevention and control in preparation for school reopening. We will prepare anti-epidemic supplies, comprehensively disinfect the school and strengthen entry & exit management, fully check the situation of teachers and students that have not returned and organize them to return, conduct overall planning of epidemic prevention and control and reopening preparation, and neglect neither."
