The fight against the COVID-19 epidemic has two major battlefields, with one being hospitals healing the wounded and rescuing the dying, and the other being communities for epidemic prevention and control. After the outbreak of COVID-19, cadres, grassroots Party members, grid members and volunteers in communities (villages) of Jingzhou have done the utmost to prevent external imported cases and internal spread without complaints, and formed a dense and solid epidemic prevention and control network for communities and villages, contributing powerful forces to the victory of this people's war. In today's series reports about the fight against the epidemic in Jingzhou, let us together review a group of civilian heroes amid community prevention and control.

In order to successfully block the epidemic spread, locking down communities is an effective way. To achieve the lockdown effect, community cadres were the first to step forward. In the Mingfenyuan Community of Jingshahe Sub-district, Shashi District, each shift was guarded by six persons, including community staff, volunteers and property management personnel, which strictly executed a series of procedures for persons who wished to go in and out of the community.

Strict management and control was only the first step for community prevention and control. Community cadres still needed to screen four types of persons one by one. Danger surrounded us anytime.

Despite community lockdown, the lives of residents must be guaranteed. There are more than 5,000 households and 10,000 residents in the Baiyunlu Sub-district. The daily necessities of these residents became the top priority of Luo Bei, a community cadre, along with her eight colleagues each day.

During the lockdown, community cadres helped residents deliver vegetables and buy medicine, which was performed in all communities each day.

Due to the shortage of village (community) prevention and control personnel, on February 5, the Organization Department of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee issued a circular, requiring in-service Party cadres in government organizations and institutions who did not return to work to participate in the epidemic prevention and control work in villages (communities) nearby. Upon the notice, 30,000 Party members across the city devoted themselves to the frontline of village and community prevention and control. In the Zijing Yujing Community of Dongcheng Sub-district, Jingzhou District, three owners were diagnosed as COVID-19 cases, which really terrified other owners. On one hand, Party members actively cooperated with community cadres to put up epidemic notifications, so as to eliminate people's fear; on the other hand, they organized the allocation of supplies in an orderly manner.

Community prevention and control is a protracted war that requires the non-stop guard by community cadres and volunteers. Sometimes, the temperature dropped to zero at night, but they did not hold back.

Compared with cities, rural areas are a vulnerable link in epidemic prevention, boasting a wide range, personnel decentralization and stretched battle fronts. Amid the epidemic, village cadres immediately led the masses to take actions suiting the characteristics of rural areas, and combined local epidemic prevention with scientific one.

In Dongli Village of Puji Town, Jiangling County, the village broadcast transmitted anti-epidemic messages to each household, enabling them to pay attention to the disease; in the Ji'nan Ecological Cultural Tourism Area, drones were used to publicize prevention and control knowledge.

Grassroots prevention and control are more reliant on the unity of people. At that time, fathers and sons or husbands and wifes in many families went into battle. In Laiqiao Village of Zhemu Town, Jianli County, Li Shuai, a 20-year-old freshman, actively joined the fight, and guarded different entrances of the village along with his mother Wang Jingxiu becoming a pair of parent-child soldiers in the anti-epidemic fight.

In the Wenhuagong Sub-district, Shashi District, Wu Fengdong and his wife were busy with the epidemic prevention and control work each day, and influenced by them, their daughter also took part in the fight and stood in the anti-epidemic frontline together with them.

If there is a war, veterans will be voluntarily called back. This is the eternal promise of soldiers. After the COVID-19 epidemic broke out, militiamen in the city also took positive actions. Zhang Youping, a 55-year-old veteran in Balingshan Town, Jingzhou District, made a fight request to become a special member of the militia unit.

Nobody was born brave, but a firm heart can always resist all fears. In more than 50 days, community and village cadres, volunteers, Party members and militiamen have fought in the streets and lanes day and night. These anonymous heroes, who either confronted the virus or passed by it, have safeguarded our common home with the strongest sense of responsibility.
