Tales of Place Names in Jingzhou Published, Interpreting Historical Origin of Ancient and Modern Place Names

It’s learned from the Jingzhou CivilAffairs Bureau on April 21 that the Talesof Place Names in Jingzhou series, which introduces the historical originof ancient and modern place names in Jingzhou, have been published by the UnityPress with national circulation through two years of compilation.

This series of books, with the editionorganized by the Jingzhou office of the leading group for the second nationalcensus on place names, have become the first achievement transformation projectfrom place name censuses in the city.

This series, with the theme of tales ofplace names in Jingzhou and within the administrative division of Jingzhou, hasincluded 1,582 tales of place names with about 2 million characters in ninechapters involving Jingzhou city and eight counties, cities and districts underits jurisdiction. The nine chapters, which are divided into the Pursuit ofAdministrative Division, Custom and Rhyme of Chu, Anecdotes of Three Kingdoms,Revolutionary Marks, Scenic Spots and Historical Sites, Folk Customs, Tales ofPlace Names, Humanities and Other, integrate various elements, such as Chu,Three Kingdoms, Ming and Qing, wharf and revolutionary cultures, and tell thehistorical origin of place names in Jingzhou, an ancient capital.

This series was titled by Yang Suizhen,former Chairman of the Jingzhou Calligraphers Association, and named Xiang Yunand Pu Shipei, place name and chronicle experts from Jingzhou Place NameCommission, as editors-in-chief.
