As the spring comes again, we shouldseize every minute to start a new journey. In the past two years, surroundingecological restoration, environmental protection and green development,Jingzhou city, keeping in mind what it was told, has made all-out efforts topromote the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in Jingzhou, andstrove to draw a new painting of “a beautiful landscape of Yangtze River inJingzhou”.
Currently, under the normalization ofepidemic prevention and control, it is a good season for afforestation. In amud flat located in Xinzhouyuan, Rongcheng Town, Jianli County, workers arebusy planting saplings, covering them with soil and firmly pressing them.Through the division of labor and cooperation, they proceed very smoothly.
This year, Jianli County plans to fulfillits afforestation target of 57,500 mu along the Yangtze River, of which 17,000mu was completed before the end of 2019 and the rest was accomplished in lateMarch. It’s learned that since last year, Jingzhou city has achievedafforestation of 585,000 mu, and successfully built into a national forestcity, enabling the city to become more eco-friendly. In 2020, the city plans toincrease artificial afforestation of 300,000 mu. So far, 243,000 mu has beenfinished, accounting for 81% of the annual target.
At the construction site of phase one ofthe Jingzhou coal railway-water combined transport storage and distributionbase, which was built by the river and rises due to the river, large cranes andexcavators are operating in a high-efficient way, and workers are doingrespective jobs in an orderly manner, presenting a busy scene. Meanwhile, abatch of provincial green development projects, such as multi-model transportprojects in Ji’nan Cultural Tourism Zone and Songzi Lingang New District, arespeeding up the construction.
At the Liulinzhou Yangtze Riverwaterfront comprehensive regulation site, piers, which were illegallyconstructed and cluttered, have all disappeared, replaced by an eyeful offlowers and trees and clear water. In order to protect the environment of theYangtze River and boost development, Jingzhou city has paid close attention to16 ecological and environmental issues transferred by the central andprovincial governments, of which the rectification of 11 issues is speeding up.Since late March, all rectification projects have resumed work. More campaignshave been launched. 16 special sub-projects under 10 major landmark projectsfor the protection of Yangtze River in Jingzhou have achieved the annualtargets. To be specific, the city has vacated the 55-km coastline and conductedafforestation of 315,000 mu; shut down, rectified and moved 29 chemicalenterprises along the river, with seven chemical industrial parks passingprovincial approval. The waterway dredging sand comprehensive utilization modelhas been promoted across the whole reaches of Yangtze River. Jingzhou city hasalso taken measures to achieve fundamental regulation. It invested 1.8 billionyuan in implementing water pollution containment in the central urban area,completing grade-A upgrading and reconstruction of four sewage disposal plants,and building main and branch sewage pipes of 128 km. Jingzhou has been approvedas one of the second batch of national demonstration cities for black andodorous water body regulation. The central urban area has achieved canalregulation of 52 km and dredging of 600,000 m3, with seven key blackand odorous water bodies having been basically eliminated. Eight provincialindustrial parks have basically conducted centralized disposal of sewage. Thecity has completed 104 township domestic sewage treatment projects, of which 79have been put into trial operation, and established township sewage pipenetworks of 1,120 km, covering all towns with sewage treatment.
In 2020, Jingzhou city will continue tofocus on systematic rectifications in the diversion of rain and sewage andpollution control and interception in the central urban area. More efforts willbe made to further promote the implementation of 16 sub-projects among 10landmark projects for the protection of Yangtze River. Combined with the Hubeiimplementation scheme of Dongting Lake water environment comprehensiveregulation planning, the city will advance water environmental regulation,water ecological restoration and water resource conservation as a whole. Thecity will push forward the construction of “four key ecological projects inthree years” through coordination, aiming to gradually make up for itsecological weaknesses. Moreover, more attention will be paid to steadilyadvance the construction of Jianghan Plain revitalization and developmentdemonstration area, making sure the ecological environment is graduallyimproved across the city.
