Jingzhou District Strengthens Sampling Inspection of Disinfected Tableware to Ensure Citizens’ Food Safety

As work resumption of catering unitsand study resumption of schools proceed, food safety is becoming increasinglyimportant. In order to ensure food safety of citizens, the Market RegulationBureau of Jingzhou District recently conducted a sampling inspection ofdisinfected tableware used in some canteens and restaurants.

Law enforcement officers of the Bureauand staff from the Jingzhou Institute of Food and Drug Control arrived at theJingzhou Chengfeng School. At the school, senior high school students havealready resumed studies, and the school canteen has arranged fixed seats foreach student, who must sit every other seats. The group first visited thekitchen, selected disinfected tableware from the disinfection cabinet, andsealed them for sampling.

They took six samples of each dish,sealed them up, and carried them back to the laboratory for testing. Besides,some plates also underwent on-site testing. The staff stuck test papers toplaces where people may often touch, such as the edge of a plate, took themback after no less than 30 seconds, and sealed them in aseptic bags.

Luo Bo from the food supervisionsection of Jingzhou Institute of Food and Drug Control introduced that as testpapers were treated in culture fluids, they will test them in the laboratory tofind out whether coliform bacteria exceeds the standard.

All these dishes were disinfected, sothe detergent residue on the surface of dishes is also one of the testingitems. Inspectors first measured the surface area of dishes, flush them withdistilled water, and put water after flushing into a container.

Apart from canteens of enterprises andpublic institutions as well as schools, inspectors also conducted spot checksof a few social catering units within their jurisdiction, mainly focusing oncentralized disinfected tableware. It's learned that the Market RegulationBureau of Jingzhou District will randomly inspect 285 batches of products frommore than 70 units this month, and publish the result on the Internet. Unitswhose products failing to meet health standards through testing will beinvestigated and punished in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
