Good News! Jingzhou Plans to Invest 2.4 Billion Yuan in Water Environment Treatment This Year

It'slearned on May 26 that Jingzhou city plans to invest approximately 2.4 billionyuan in further advancing the construction of water treatment projects thisyear, including seven extension projects and 64 new projects.

It’sintroduced that last year the city immediately took rectification actions toaddress feedback problems from central environmental inspectors, and at thesame time launched comprehensive water environment treatment projects of 5.15billion yuan, as a move to promote various water environment treatment taskswith systematic thinking. With an investment of around 703 million yuan, thecity completed 17 projects last year, and achieved initial success in thecomprehensive regulation of water environment.

Aprincipal from the Jingzhou Municipal Bureau of Housing and Urban-RuralDevelopment noted that concerning the comprehensive regulation of sewageoutlets, Jingzhou city has conducted classified and comprehensive treatmentthrough rain and sewage diversion, regulator reconstruction, shutdown ofillegally and privately connected drains and renovation of wrong and mixedconnection points, which has significantly reduced the direct discharge ofdomestic sewage, and effectively curbed the water treatment pollution in theurban area. Meanwhile, 37 pipe network projects launched by the Bureau havebeen all launched. Among them, the pipe network construction and renovation of20 roads, including Yanjiang Road, Jiefang Road and Yuhe Road, were completed,and sewage pipes of about 30 km and rain pipes of 51.4 km were newly built.

Inorder to further improve the domestic sewage treatment ability in the urbanarea, Jingzhou city last year launched phase 2 extension projects of threesewage treatment plants in Chengnan, Caoshi and Hongguang. Among them, thephase 2 project of Hongguan sewage treatment plant, with designed scale of 50,000tons/day, has basically completed the construction of major structure, and isnow undergoing equipment installation, while the Chengnan and Caoshi sewagetreatment plants has begun foundation construction. Also, to solve theinadequate sewage treatment capacity in the transition period for the extensionof sewage treatment plants, the city set up temporary sewage treatmentintegration facilities at Leijiadang pump station and Sanwanlu check gate,respectively, with designed scale of 40,000 tons/day, which have already beenput into operation.

Besides,Jingzhou city also invested 360 million yuan to implement the pipe networkinspection (detection) and restoration in the central urban area, and includedsupporting rain and sewage pipe networks across primary and secondary trunkroads, streets and lanes, old communities and residential neighborhoods in thecentral urban area of 102.5 km2 in its inspection range. The totalpipe network inspection (detection) length is about 3,250 km, of which around3,000 km were detected and 600 km were inspected. According to the inspection(detection) result, the city plans to comprehensively carry out pipe networkrestoration and rain and sewage diversion reconstruction work in primary andsecondary trunk roads, streets and lanes, enterprises & publicinstitutions, and old communities.

It’slearned that the city will further reinforce the source control of sewagetreatment, comprehensively improve the quality and increase the efficiency insewage treatment, and improve the long-acting management mechanism on black andodorous waters in the central urban area in the future.
