Jingzhou: hard work finally pays off
Updated: 2020-11-01 11:12:59

Hard work has finally paid off, which is quite gratifying. Since the beginning of this year,Jingzhou has experienced the double tests of the COVID-19 and the flood.Against all odds, the city has done a good job in epidemic prevention and control, flood relief and agricultural production, reduced the impact of the epidemic and the flood through hard work, and stabilized the "basics"of agriculture. The situation of "agriculture, rural areas and farmers" has been generally improving as farmers in Jingzhou have reaped abumper harvest.

Autumn is a picturesque season of harvest. In the semi late rice fields of the eight groups of Dongfang Community, Bijiashan Office, Shishou City, the harvesters are galloping in the golden waves of rice. As the harvesters passed by, the rice grains and the straws are separated instantly. Harvesters, golden rice and mynahs flying from all directions constitute a fascinating picture of harvest.

"As the autumn wind blows, crabs' feet start to itch." Now is the time when crabs are massively available on the market. At 6 o'clock in the morning, at the Honghu Qingshui Hairy Crab Breeding Base in Luoshan Town, Honghu City, crabfarmers are busy picking up crabs, each filled with the joy of harvest.

October is also the season when pomelos mature. In Zhongshuiqiao Village, Wangjiaqiao Town,Songzi City, one can find tree branches beautifully dotted with golden pomelos.Villager Liu Quanzhu is busy working at his pomelo garden, humming a song cheerfully.

This has been a very difficult year. At the beginning of the year, the sudden epidemic wreaked havoc on agricultural production. In order not to affect agricultural production while fighting the "epidemic", the whole city adjusted the rice planting plan moderately and provided online and offline synchronous guidance services, focusing on epidemic prevention and control, spring ploughing and spring management, agricultural product sales, etc. Jingzhou was the first to issue the Emergency Noticeon Promoting Farming Operation of Agricultural Machinery in an Orderly Way in the name of epidemic prevention headquarters in the whole province and made overall plans for ensuring the transportation of agricultural machinery and spare parts and the farming operation of agricultural machinery in an effort to fully support agricultural production in spring.

By the beginning of May, the spring crops such as early rice, corn and soybean had basically recovered to the normal level, and in the field management of wheat and rape the city had achieved the objective of preventing and treating all diseases properly. The epidemic situation improved a little in July. However, the rainy season and multiple rounds of heavy rainfall caused a serious secondary impact to agriculture. Floods have affected more than 3.5 million mu of grain crops, including more than 1.9 million mu of disaster areas and 510,000 mu of areas that have reaped no crops. More than 100 disaster prevention guidance working groups have been set up across the city and over 500 agricultural technicians have gone to the production frontline to guide disaster prevention production by area, village and household, including waterlog draining, conducting field management and replanting.

Agriculture can'treduce cost and increase efficiency without the support of science and technology. Flight defense by plant protection drones has become one of the mainstream operations. It is no longer a dream for grain dryers to get every grain to the warehouse. In agricultural production, disaster reduction has been truly achieved through "technology".

According to the data of the Municipal Bureau for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, it is estimated that the total yield of semilate rice in the year will reach 3.372 million tons, an increase of 106,000 tons over the previous year and that late rice, corn, soybean will decline slightly, but the overall yield increase of autumn grain in the year has remained unchanged. It can be said that this year's bumper harvest is hard-earned!
