Breaking news! Jingzhou Coal Port goes into operation, to benefit Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi
Updated: 2021-01-06 16:21:06

Jingzhou Coal Rail-Water Transport, Storage and Distribution Base (Phase I) went into operation on the morning of January 5. As the largest coal transfer and trading platform in Central China, as well as an emergency coal storage and supply support platform in Hubei, the base is of great realistic significance to optimizing the layout of the national energy strategy, ensuring energy supply in Central China and accelerating the rejuvenation of Jingzhou.

The reporter got on board the No. 2 ship loader at Terminal 5 of Jingzhou Coal Port. Via the ship loader, coal from Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway was loaded on ships endlessly to finish the maiden rail-water coal transport.

Phase I of the base involves the construction of 6 3,000t bulk cargo berths including 2 import berths and 4 export berths; the construction of a 14.08-kilometer special rail line with a three-wagon tippler system; as well as the construction of 8 stackers/reclaimers and 13 coal yards.

Hubei needs about 100 million tons of coal annually, of which nearly 90 percent is from other provinces. After Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway was open to traffic in 2019, Shaanxi Coal, an energy chemical enterprise in Shaanxi, transported 16.75 million tons of coal to Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces along Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway via Jingbian-Shenmu Railway in 2020, accounting for 84 percent of the total transport capacity of Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway. Shaanxi Coal has abundant transport resources and market support to ensure the future development of Jingzhou Port.

Hubei Coal Investment & Development Co., Ltd. started the early work of Phase II of Jingzhou Coal Port in 2019, planning to complete the project in the "fourteenth five-year" period. After its completion, the project will leverage the advantage of rail-water transport to ensure coal supply to Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi. With an annual coal transport capacity of 50 million tons and an annual static coal stacking & storage capacity of 5 million tons, the project will meet 35 days of emergency coal demand of thermal power units in Hubei.

As the main coal transport line of Hubei, Jingzhou Coal Rail-Water Transport, Storage and Distribution Base is the cornerstone of a new coal-power-port-chemical industry park with an output value of 100 billion yuan. Based on the completion and operation of Phase I, Jingzhou will provide all-round services and create favorable environment for the accelerated construction of the project.
