Updated: 2021-02-16 16:19:14

2020 has elapsed and 2021 has come. Jingzhou Garden Expo Park bid farewell to the unusual year of 2020 with a spectacular light fair. This pageant attracted flocks of citizens in Jingzhou and tourists from other places. The number of tourists peaked at 35,000 on February 14.

The sun went down and Jingzhou Garden Expo Park lighted up at 6:30 pm. Tourists filed in and felt as if they were in a painting of colored lights. Most visitors came with relatives and friends.

The New Year light fair is a tradition of Jingzhou Ancient City. This year the fair consists of five sectors: Night Tour, Tough Jingzhou, Power of China, Memories of Jingchu and Hi-tech Jingzhou. From the one featuring a drum with a tiger-shaped base and a phoenix-shaped frame at the entrance, lighting sets manifesting characteristic Jingchu culture presented a visual feast with traditional cultural features.

The lighting set themed "mutual help" is most impressive. It brings back the memorable days when the whole country fought Covid-19 together, features a combination of thumbs-up with Canton Tower, Sacred Heart Cathedral and Hainan's coconut trees and waves, and conveys Jingzhou's gratitude to Hainan and Guangdong.

The fair themed "Splendid Jingchu, Colorful Expo Park" presented 43 lighting sets demonstrating keywords like flood control and poverty alleviation in 2020. Over 20 lighting sets measure over 10 meters high and over 10,000 colored lights were put on display. The fair was fully upgraded this year to a "temple fair" including a cultural tour, an intangible cultural heritage show and a characteristic food fair, to showcase Jingzhou's rich and brilliant Chu culture.

Lights bring hope and enrich the atmosphere of the New Year. This visual feast was widely acclaimed by tourists. According to data, 70 percent of tourists were from Jingzhou and 30 percent from other places. After seeing a peak of over 30,000 tourists on the night of the second day of the Lunar New Year, the fair hit a new high of 35,000 on February 14.
