Clare Fearnley, Ambassdor of New Zealand to China and the delegation visits Honghu

In order to thoroughly implement the Xi Jinping’s thought on diplomacy of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Clare Fearnley, Ambassdor of New Zealand to China and the delegation visited Honghu on March 19 to 20. 

On the morning of March,20, accompanied by Feng Xiguo, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, Hu Jian, Director of the Division of the American and Oceanian Affairs of Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, Yang Hongjuan, Deputy Director of the Jingzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, Hong Yunfeng, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Honghu Municipal Committee, and Xiong Ying, Deputy Mayor of Honghu Municipal People’s Government, Ambassdor Clare visited Western Hunan-Hubei Soviet Area Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs,and the staff introduced the life story of Marshal He Long to Ambassador Clare.

Then the delegation visited New Zealand friend Rewi Alley Statue and took a group photo, the Ambassador Clare presented flowers to the statue of Rewi Alley.

As Ambassador Clare visited the former residence of Rewi Alley, the staff introduced Louis Alley's life and work experience in China, especially in Honghu. Rewi Alley, honored as Honghu Migratory Bird, who tightly bound to Honghu, visited Honghu five times from February 1932 to 1983 and made deep friendship with Honghu. Ambassador Clare praised Rewi Alley was the founder of China- New Zealand friendship and wrote an inscription about the friendship.

Shen Xianwu, the Mayor of Honghu Municipal People’s Government, met with Ambassador Clare. Shen expressed warm welcome to the delegation, and introduced the epidemic prevention and control and economic recovery and social development of Honghu City. Ambassdor expressed interest in Honghu's agriculture, agricultural products processing industry and tourism. Shen hoped that Honghu City and its friendship city, Hurunui District, New Zealand, would carry out exchanges and cooperation in the field of culture, tourism, education and other aspects, and make new contributions to deepening the traditional friendship between China and New Zealand.
