April is a good time for outing and kite flying. A source with King Chu's Mausoleum said on March 31 that the scenic spot would present a kite culture festival on April 3, which features the flying of a 100-meter dragon kite, as well as activities such as Chu fair, kite DIY and fun kite show.
The Chinese kite, known as "the first form of made-made aircraft", dates back to the Warring States (Eastern Zhou) period over 2,000 years ago. To promote the traditional culture, King Chu's Mausoleum will present a fun kite show containing over 1,000 kites in various forms. A successor to intangible cultural heritage item-"Jingzhou Moying Kite" will be invited to fly a 100-meter dragon kite. Tourists can learn kite DIY for free.
As part of the festival, the scenic spot will present a Chu fair. At the Jiuquqiao promenade, a group of "shopkeepers" in gorgeous Chu clothing will take you back more than 1,000 years ago to see bustling street markets of Chu State. Here tourists can experience interesting traditional items and intangible cultural shows. To create a strong traditional cultural atmosphere and set off a Chinese culture fever, tourists in ancient costume will get free access to the festival. (Report Wu Dan/Correspondent Zhou Zhou)
