Update: Chibi Yangtze River Highway Bridge accepted
Updated: 2021-06-04 11:55:53

On June 3, Chibi Yangtze River Highway Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge with steel-concrete composite girders and the largest main span among similar bridges in the world, passed the handover acceptance. After the bridge is completed, it will take only 5 minutes to travel from Chibi to Honghu.

The bridge is a cross-river controlling project of Taizhou-Xiaojin Highway in the National Highway Network Plan and the Hubei Provincial Plan for Main Highway Network, as well as one of the first 80 demonstrative projects in fields such as infrastructure approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. Social capital is encouraged to participate in the construction and operation of these projects. The project stretches 11.2 kilometers from Wulin Town, Honghu City to Chibi Town, Chibi City. With a full length of 3.35 kilometers, a designed speed of 100km/h, an estimated budget of 3.25 billion yuan and a construction period of 48 months, the bridge was constructed according to the standards of two-way six-lane highways.

The main towers of the bridge were innovatively shaped as an "H", with the north tower 217.33 meters high and the south 223 meters high. The equipment, processes and technologies used in the project addressed world problems such as the control of the cable force of steel-concrete composite girders and the alignment of the bridge with a large span of 720 meters, the concrete pouring of large pile caps and the once-off vertical transfer of concrete to ultra high main towers. The main span of 720 meters broke the world record of 600 meters, making the bridge the world's largest cable-stayed bridge with steel-concrete composite girders.

The bridge will connect Ring Highway in Wuhan Metropolitan Area, Suizhou-Yueyang Highway, Shanghai-Chongqing Highway, Hankou-Honghu-Jianli Highway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Highway, Hangzhou-Ruili Highway and other highways.
