WUHAN, June 23 (Xinhua/Lian Xun and Huang Fei) –Anti-corruption-themed cultural works that gain word-of-mouth popularity can boost public’s awareness of building a clean government. In recent years, the discipline watchdogs at all levels in Jingzhou of Hubei Province create new highlights of the culture of integrity with local education resources, in an effort to integrate the construction of a culture of integrity with preserving local traditional culture and make the education in anti-corruption take root in people’s heart.

On June 18, Jingzhou authorities organized a series of Party history-themed cultural activities on improving Party conduct and government integrity. Around the themes of “grasping the truth, increasing confidence, upholding moral principles, and improving conduct through learning Party history”, the studies of political disciplines and regulations as well as the education in clean government have been integrated into stage plays, sitcoms, comedy sketches performed in dialects, musical dramas and other artistic forms that are popular among the people.

The sweeping campaign on cultivating honest and clean Party conduct finds its way to theatrical performance. On that day, a stage play created by Honghu Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervision Commission based on the stories of Wang Hebo, the first Chairman of the Central Supervisory Commission - the predecessor of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, offered a glimpse into the deeds of Chinese revolutionary forefathers.

The poetry performance titled “I Swear” given by Jingzhou District Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervision Commission conveyed the common convictions and solemn commitment. The drama “A Letter from a Mother” performed by the staff from Shashi District Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervision Commission, the scene play “Confession” created by Songzi Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervision Commission, and the musical drama “The Way Home” choreographed by Jiangling County Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervision Commission gave a vivid class to the present Party members and officials. These programs served as a mind-your-manners reminder against corrupt behavior.

The one-act play “The Price of Power-for-Money Deals” created by Gong’an County Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervision Commission was adapted from true stories, and strove to fortify in Party members and officials the ideological and moral defense line against corruption. “Powers should not be held without good reason, and everyone working in the public sector shall not exercise public power to satisfy personal purpose. Once Party officials have wavered in their worldview, outlook on life, and values and fail to have reverence for the law and political disciplines, they will violate Party discipline and even the law one day.” said Tu Yiqiang, the person in charge of the creation of the play. This play aims to enable the audience to recognize that misusing or abusing power will make the corrupt officials’ life out of control, in a bid to warn Party officials and members to exercise their power justly and honestly.

“I have refined my political thinking after watching the multi-act play ‘A Letter from a Mother.’ In the play, the son’s deep confession to his mother and the Party organization sounded the alarm in my heart, and Party officials should enhance the sense of integrity and self-discipline and never allow the bottom line to be crossed,” said Xiao Shengwei, Party Secretary of Guanju Town, Shashi District.

In order to improve the culture of clean government, Jingzhou authorities in recent years have taken a number of innovative measures to make the culture of integrity more down-to-earth and better understood by local people. Local officials explored the stories of ancient role models in local history who set an example for combating corruption and preserve the character of integrity, and a number of picture-story series with famous historic figures practicing honesty and integrity as the main characters came out, including “Sun Shuao”, “Gong’an Three Yuan Brothers”, and “Yang Pu”. Relying on the Sun Shuao Park featuring the education in clean government, local authorities launched a distant education product “Chumei Garden” with the application of 3D and VR technology, enabling officials and the masses receive online education in the culture of incorruptibility. In addition, several activities themed improving government integrity were held, such as poem recitation and delivering speeches. Publicity caravans carried the culture of clean government to rural areas.

“Promoting a culture of incorruptibility plays a big role in combating corruption in an integrated way,” said Li Kai, Member of Standing Committee of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee, Party Secretary of Jingzhou Discipline Inspection Commission and Head of Jingzhou Supervision Commission. With the goal of creating a favorable environment for “valuing the culture of government integrity” in the society and improving Party and government conduct as well as social civility through fostering a culture of incorruptibility, the discipline watchdogs at all levels in the city keep to the right path and make innovation, in an effort to let the culture of government integrity inherent in local fine traditions breathe new life and glow with magnificent glory.
