Updated: 2021-07-16 16:39:35

The last few days have seen Jingzhou enter a peak period for early rice harvest. Jingzhou is expected to finish harvesting 493,700 mu of early rice before July 20, according to the Jingzhou Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs yesterday.

A seed sown in the spring promises a good harvest in the summer. Farmers in Jingzhou have recently had a bumper crop of early rice and used harvesters to reap. Agricultural mechanization has eased work pressure. According to sources in the harvested areas, the per unit yield of conventional early rice grown in Damen Village, Ganjiachang Township, Gong'an County was about 425 kilograms; the per unit yield of hybrid early rice "R302" grown by Lianmin Agricultural Machinery Cooperative in Yuniu Village, Fenyan Town, Jianli City was over 600 kilograms. Wet early rice grains were priced at 1.72 yuan to 1.90 yuan per kilogram in Jingzhou, remaining stable and seeing a moderate increase from last year, and income from early price production rose significantly from last year. Farmers said this year's early rice has full grains, expecting a bumper harvest.

Since the beginning of this year, at the call of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to step up double-cropping rice growing and restore early rice production, Jingzhou has earnestly implemented the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and the Hubei Provincial People's Government, intensified support to stabilize the enthusiasm about grain production, enhanced the sense of responsibility to stabilize grain sowing area and improved services to stabilize industrial development. Jingzhou registered an early rice sowing area of 493,700 mu this year, up 37,000 mu or 8.1 percent year on year, basically returning to the level in 2019. According to the results of field yield monitoring, Jingzhou's average per unit yield and total yield of early rice are expected to be 418.8kg/mu and 206,800 tons respectively, up 33.8kg/mu and up 31,200 tons year on year.
