The "Underwater Forest" is taking shape as the ecological restoration test of north moat comes to a completion
Updated: 2021-08-26 15:18:33

On August 25, the reporter learned from Jingzhou Jingjiang Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. that the ecological restoration test of North Moat was completed in mid-August.

According to a source, the ecological restoration test of North Moat kicked off in March this year and was carried out from Xiaobeimen Bridge in the north of Mingyue Park to Jinfeng Square in the east gate. Due to the restricted construction conditions, only 1-km-long water area was selected for experimental restoration to ensure its effectiveness.

After the source control and sewage interception project was completed, the construction party started to carry out ecological restoration and adopted measures such as disinfection and activation of sediment and impurity removal on the water surface to treat the surface sediment. In the medium stage, submerged plants were planted, and microbial activation equipment and aeration equipment installed to further improve water quality. After the aquatic plants survived, the numbers of microorganisms and aquatic animals were controlled through the food chain. Facilities such as floating islands and ecological reefs were installed in the late stage to increase biodiversity and improve landscape effect.

In mid-May, the project completed all engineering drawings and gradually improved the water quality. At present, the staff are carrying out operation and maintenance such as harvesting and replanting waterweed and restoring post-rain transparency.

According to Mr. Chen, a resident living nearby, they often come here for workout and are witnesses to the restoration of the Moat. Since June, the water in North Moat has become more and more transparent, and aquatic plants and fish as long as more than 1 meter can be seen now. “We are looking forward to seeing underwater black algae and red carp and an "underwater forest" in the whole moat,” said Chen.
