Since the "National Petroleum Exploration and Development Campaign" in the Jianghan Plain in 1969, Jingzhou has seen the formation of a featured petroleum industry, the emergence of 122 enterprises above the designated size, as well as the creation of an oil & gas equipment manufacturing industry cluster, a petrochemical equipment manufacturing industry cluster, an oilfield chemistry and smart oil service industry cluster, and an oil & gas gathering and transferring pipe industry base. Jingzhou's petroleum industry registered an output value of 14.5 billion yuan in 2020. The petroleum machinery industry cluster of Jingzhou District and the petrochemical equipment manufacturing industry cluster of Honghu City were listed among provincial key industry clusters for the 14th consecutive year. SJ Petroleum Machinery Co. was ranked 8th among China's top 50 petroleum and petrochemical equipment manufacturers.

The expert group of the China Petroleum & Petrochemical Equipment Industry Association (CPEIA) visited Jingzhou to examine the construction of the petroleum & petrochemical equipment manufacturing base from October 17 to 18. They assessed the base from 11 dimensions: industrial scale, development environment, service system, development plan, support policies, technical level of key products, infrastructure, R&D capacity, sci-tech achievements, brand cultivation and the number of members, scoring the project 88.6 points and rating it "outstanding".

A pattern of "three clusters and one base" has taken shape in Jingzhou's petroleum & petrochemical industry, four industrial sectors have formed, and every industrial sector has tremendous research strength and industrially leading enterprises, according to the expert group. A base with the most complete petroleum & petrochemical industry chain in China, superior in research level and product competitiveness has come into being in Jingzhou. The expert group suggested including the base into the scope of industrial management and petroleum & petrochemical equipment management, fully leveraging the talent advantage of Jingzhou's research institutions and the School of Petroleum Engineering, Yangtze University, promoting the efficient and fast development of the industry, promoting Jingzhou's petroleum & petrochemical equipment manufacturing base to facilitate investment promotion, continuing to implement preferential policies released by the government to create a favorable environment for enterprises, properly dealing with the relations between development scale and product quality, and expanding the influence of the base.

The experts said the base would be inaugurated in Jingzhou this November. CPEIA will help Jingzhou bring in outstanding leading enterprises from home and abroad, to enhance the popularity and reputation of Jingzhou's petroleum & petrochemical equipment manufacturing base in domestic and overseas markets and promote the development of the industry.
