Upon approval by the Hubei Provincial People's Government, the eastern extension of Jianli-Jiangling Expressway, Jiangbeidong Expressway, funded and constructed by Hubei Communications Investment Group, will be officially open for commissioning from 0:00 on May 1, 2022.

Jiangbeidong Expressway starts from Shuifu Village, Wulin Town, Honghu City, connects with the north bank of Chibi Yangtze River Highway Bridge, ends at Guanmahu Village, Fenyan Town, Jianli City, and connects with Fenyan Hub of Jianli-Jiangling Expressway. The total length of the route is about 62.57 km, with bridges accounting for more than 50%. There are 4 interchanges and 3 ramp toll booths. With an estimated budget of about RMB 8.787 billion, a two-way four-lane expressway will be built, and the design speed will be 100 km/h.

The eastern extension of Jianli-Jiangling Expressway is one of the key transportation construction projects in Hubei Province. It is of great significance to improving the conditions of eastward and southward travel in Jingzhou, strengthening the horizontal traffic connection with cities along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, realizing the seamless connection between regional traffic network and national traffic network, and promoting the economic development of Jianghan Plain.

The eastern extension of Jianli-Jiangling Expressway is an important part of Wuhan-Songzi Expressway. The project is implemented in four parts. Among others, construction of Jianli-Jiangling Expressway and Jianli-Jiangling Expressway has been completed, and construction of Wuhan-Honghu Section and Jiangling-Songzi Section has started.

The completion of the Wuhan-Songzi Expressway Project will be of great significance to promoting the construction of a transportation powerhouse, improving the backbone road network structure of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, optimizing the layout of national and Hubei expressway networks, facilitating Hubei's regional development strategy that "one region takes the lead, as driven by two wings and coordinated by all regions," strengthening the linkage between Wuhan urban circle and urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, promoting Jingzhou's cross-river integration and industrial cooperation, building a regional central city in central Hubei Province, improving the flood control and rescue capacity of Jing River flood diversion and storage area, and boosting post-epidemic economic recovery and stable growth.
